Don't Go Broke in the Early Going

in #life7 years ago

This post deals mainly with anyone who has signed up for the Plug in Profits site, but could apply to anyone who is just starting out with internet marketing ( i.e. affiliate promotions, website promotion, etc ) and wants to work from home with a home based business online.

If you are familiar with Plug In Profits, there is an excellent 30 day training overview where they provide a daily activity to help build your business. It's easy to get caught up in getting through it and doing everything that is recommended. You want to get as much traffic to your site as soon as possible and you start trying everything that is suggested.

Next thing you know, you spent all your budget, you didn't get the results you wanted, you get discouraged and quit.

Keep in mind all of the suggestions are things that have worked for others, but you don't have to implement them all at once, and some of them really aren't worth doing. Most of the ones that are worth doing are free.

Suzanne Morrison has an excellent blog about getting started with the PIP site, but even if you are using other products, her advice is valuable as well. She is very honest about what to focus on in the beginning. As you can see, some things really aren't worth the time, and the ones she focuses on are mostly free.

Another great resource for internet marketing is Steven Wagenheim. His information is based on his experiences as well and is very valuable.

Some of the best methods out there for gaining traffic won't cost you anything more than your time. Article marketing ( submitting articles that target keywords and link back to your site ), blogs ( like this one ), forum posting, and social bookmarking are some of the most effective means out there, and don't cost a dime. Of course, you could always outsource some of the work if you wish.

So if you have signed up for the Plug In Profits site, don't feel like you have to spend money on everything they suggest. In fact some of the things I would hold off on until you have sales coming in, and then only if you want to. Things such as changing the color of your website, or adding a "peel-away" ad or even adding Adsense. Those may be useful later, but the first order of business is to get traffic.

Hope that helps! Whatever you decide to do to market your site or products, learn as much as you can from others who have been there, get out there and do it, test and revise, and above all, stick with it.
