Bosco Verticale, the first vertical forest in the world

Bosco Verticale is not the only green construction project in the world that integrates plant life into its facades, but unlike many, this project goes one step further.

The fascinating new pair of residential buildings called Bosco Verticale is currently being built in Milan, Italy. Design by architect Stefano Boerija. Bosco Verticale is interpreted as a project for urban afforestation that contributes to the restoration of the environment and urban biodiversity without the implications of city expansion on the territory.

Boeri claims that the inclusion of trees adds only five percent of construction costs, and the need for a response to the expansion of the modern city is indispensable. If these apartments were gardens with individual homes, they would require 50,000 square meters of land and 10,000 square feet of woods.

In the first vertical forest in the world, tall 27 floors, there will be nearly one hectare of forest trees, unbelievable 900 trees, 5,000 bushes and 11,000 different plants.

Covered with plant life, the building will help in balancing air pollution by filtering dust particles that are present in all cities (Milan is one of the most polluted cities in Europe).

Each apartment in the building will have a balcony with stacks that match all weather conditions. During the summer, it will provide a fantastic natural shade, and also filter the pollution, and in the winter the bare trees will allow sunlight to penetrate the flats. Irrigation of plants will be carried out through 'wastewater' that is found in all buildings in the world.

Bosco Verticale is a green project that is not just a letter on paper, but also a concrete step in reducing pollution, solving carbon dioxide and creating oxygen.

Interesting building!

Including more green in the city also helps keeping down the summer temperatures.

Yes, and the best part is that the building looks like one giant tree.

That's a really cool building. If I had the choice I'd live in a city full of buildings like that.

It would be cool that kind of city exists, people would be much more happier!
