According to the definition given by the International Glossary of Hydrology (WMO-No. 385), spring is place where water emerges naturally from the rock or soil and flows onto land or into a body of surface water.

That is the meaning of spring scientifically.

But springs in a village which is located between the foot of a mountain and the sea coast in the Indian Ocean Sumatra, will have more meaning than that.

Springs, over there, is not only a source of life, but life itself. Almost in every corner of the the village, rises the spring that clarity is a source of shade and coolness. For people who lived in the village, the spring is a gift which they in touch every day. The springs are the first place they went once when they start their day, and the last place they encountered when going to bed. Spring is a friend who will they missed when they were forced to leave their village. Springs and they are the two elements that have been merged in a single life.
