Taiwan's Garbage Collection is Unusual

in #life5 years ago

In Canada, there are certain days that you put the garbage out on your curb. The garbage trucks will come by and collect them. In Taiwan, you have to physically go outside at certain times at specific locations to manually throw away your garbage. For the city of Taipei, your garbage has to be in these blue garbage bags which you can buy from 7-11 and other similar supermarkets.

Before the trucks arrive, people are waiting outside with their garbage. The garbage trucks come everyday except Sunday. However for recycling, they collect certain items on each day. On Monday and Friday, they collect cardboard while on Tuesday and Thursday they collect plastic.

Taiwan was initially weird to me because when I visited it last February, I noticed how theres barely any trash cans on the street. It was annoying because whenever I bought food/snacks/drinks, I was holding the garbage for a few blocks until I finally found a trash can.

The system seems to work fine for people here but it's definitely more inconvenient than leaving your garbage out for the collectors to take it themselves. Youve gotta carry all this garbage from your apartment (no elevator) and then walk out to the main street and wait for them. It is what it is hahaha.
