The Strangeness Of Weight Loss
We see all these diets And special things that will cause you to "lose" weight. But I have yet to feel like I've mastered my body enough to get my goal body.
I feel like everyone is different, They have to figure out their body and how it works. Some diets work great for some people, While others don't.
The first time I lost weight, I successfully lost 40lbs. It was SUPER EASY. I already had a very physical job. But I had a habit of eating three egg McMuffin every day after work, And sometimes I'd eat a Mcflurry, amoung other foods.
- I ate a ton. *
I realized I wanted to lose weight when I weighed more than I ever have, So all I did was stop eating out completely. And I took vitamins everyday, Along with ensuring my work performance was really good, The harder I worked The more calories I burned.
With in 2 months, I had lost 40 pounds.
I made a big mistake....
It seems like out of nowhere, People were complimenting me like crazy. "look how skinny you are now" people would say.
I even got called the "skinny bitch" by coworkers who didn't like me.
Which was so bizarre, Because I've always been on the heavier side.
I Made A HUGE mistake with this weight loss initially.
While I made healthy changes and i was healthy.
I didn't take enough pictures.
It's pretty amazing, That one could lose so much weight, And not even see it. I looked in the mirror and still saw my old chubbier self. I became discouraged, Eating out less was hard when I was trying to start my own business. While working at my job.
Not having enough comparison photos was really heartbreaking. And I so badly wanted to see what I used to look like.
The compliments were nice but it wasn't enough for ME. It seemed like I lost weight to make others happy and not myself.
As a result I slipped into my old habits.
In December I weighted myself again.
I weighed even more than I did before. And I decided to start losing weight again. This time I took a ton of awkward photos from every angle.
If you lose weight DO IT!
Take photos with your clothes on, And in your underwear, Side view, front view, GO crazy And put them where only you can access them.
My second Weight Loss Challenge
In December of 2016 I started to try and lose weight again. This time I decided to count calories, my life is completely different now, I'm self-employed and my job is now desk-bound.
I love to exercise, but I also love to eat, So I have been counting calories for over a month now and have lost 12 pounds. Its much harder than before, Because I have to eat a lot less Than I was able to before when I had a job.
( I would burn 1,500-3,000 calories in just one shift at my old job. )
My current weight is 182 and I am 5'5.
I've been aiming for like 1,600 calories per day.
I hope to weigh around 140-150 in a few months. And then I'll decide from there if I want to lose more weight. ( I don't want to be too skinny. )
My goal is to be more muscular.
What are your health/fitness goals for this year?
Kaylin - between your business and personal goals I can't recommend enough reading Tim Ferriss' book 4 hour work week and reading his blog to which I have linked here
I love this! I actually started his book recently. Thank you hehe :)
It can be so hard to realize when you've made a big difference...great idea to take pictures to keep track!!
My health goals are to get in better shape, do more hiking, outdoor sports, would love to learn to surf! I embarking on a diet myself...more like a new plan for eating, I guess. It's a plan where you don't have to count calories and you basically go vegan for a week, then you start slowly adding in lean meats after that. I've heard great things about it, so crossing my fingers that it will help widdle my middle, lol! Good Luck on your Journey!!!
So true! especially when you see yourself everyday, Minor changes overtime can be really difficult to see.
I love your goals! I actually have similar ones. I want to learn how to surf as well, And Hike more :) Exercising is so much fun.
I love your advice about going Vegan, I may have to try that. I'm not whilling to do something like that permanently. But for a week will help me readjust my diet.
There are a lot of good points here, from someone who was too heavy in 1997 being athletic my whole life -- made changes and stuck with them. The documentation changes and logging you bring up - are great points.
I know we do not talk much on here but I guess I have seen a couple photos of you and with your profile pic you use and I have always thought you are pretty.
Don't take it the wrong way and don't let anyone tell you differently either LOL
Always keep in mind some factors are beyond your control or ability to really force or tweak them -- your body type, some DNA inherited other co factors and such along with how many fast/slow twitch muscle fibres you have -- so don't beat yourself up on those types of things.
Aww thank you!! Hahah
I love that you brought up the inherited DNA and such, I think that is part of the reason I have issues keeping my weight down. My entire family has weight issues. But I figure if I do everything that I can control. Then I will hopefully have something close to my dream body. Even if it's still imperfect.
Too bad we can't alter our genes LOL.
LOL.
You are right, do what you CAN control but I think the key is balance and maintaining a n overall healthy lifestyle in terms of mental, physical and emotional wellness and choices.
Don't get too obseesed with it all but I know where you are at, I honestly do.
I lost 45 lbs in 60 days in 1997 and some people did not recognize me, due to the changes - which caused me some problems in my real estate business because agents and secretaries that had not seen me for 2 or 4 months were like
"You are not Barry, we are not releasing these keys for our clients" etc. LOL
I would have to take off my sunglasses and my TM blue eyes I get comments on my whole life would speak where I couldn't.
True stories, just sharing, so you know I have been there and then trained and advised people on related health and training and wellness into the future after that.
getting healthy can be one of the hardest things for people to do, thanks for sharing!
No problem! It has been hard! But I won't give up hehe.
