Our technology has advanced a lot. A lot of studies have been dealing with research related to crimes and the chances of the offenses being committed in the future.

Based on a person's personality, Can we determine if they are likely to commit a crime?

Some of the research done has been considered flawed because of the lack of a control group. But it still raises an important question on whether or not people should be punished, Based on personality traits rather than criminal behavior they are likely to commit in the future.

Treating Criminal Personality

Can we treat people who have a criminal personality? And should we? Do we have the right to interfere with peoples lives because they may harbor traits that could lead them to future serial killers?

  • Traditional therapy doesn't always work on offenders. Because they were able to manipulate people who are conducting the therapy that they have been "fixed."
  • Can we somehow force those offenders to take responsibility for their actions?

Some Of The Personality Traits?

Aggressiveness and Crime

The inability to tolerate the frustrating situations without resorting to aggression and violence.

  • Children who are more assertive, daring, Prone to fight, and quick to anger. Are sometimes also resistant to discipline and are more likey to violate the law, Later in life.

Children Who Kill

A study found that non-homicidal children who were compared to the homicidal children had some of these characteristics.

  • Suicide attempt history
  • Fathers who are violent to mothers
  • Fathers who were also homicidal
  • Mothers who have been hospitalized for psychiatric reasons.

What is Nonempathetic Murder?
The incapability of seeing things from another person perspective.

Learning about all of this makes me curious to what kind of future some children will have. What kind of environment they will develop in is important in raising a child who will avoid crime. While the personality trait that is covered in this post can be a good thing, It also can go the other way and be a bad thing too.

Sort:

There is an anime about this, Psycho Pass. Watch that.
It will be bad. Actions are incriminating, not the personality. It's like we should punishing people for having thoughts.

Oh I haven't seen it haha. I agree with you. Punishing people for thoughts is silly.
