How To Be More Decisive!
To be brutally honest, My life is a bit of a mess right now. So many HUGE changes have happened recently that I spend a lot of the day, Not knowing what to do with myself. Part of me wants to hide under a rock for a few weeks. But this is also one of the busiest times for my business, So there's also a lot of work to be done. I also don't want to get stuck, With these bad habits I've been indulging in recently (Soda drinking, Fast food, Laying around).
Recently, I've also had to make some pretty large decisions again.
I'm happy that I at least have choices here. Most of the life changes that happened recently were out of my control...
Then, of course, there are things that are in my control that has happened...
Two large opportunities to more than quadruple the size of my business, Getting a car And now learning how to drive.
So I'm pretty overwhelmed. Usually, I'm pretty decisive when it comes to big decisions. But lately, I've been indecisive.
Listen To Your Gut Instincts
I'm sure we've all had those moments where we failed to listen to our gut instincts, As A result things didn't work out the way we wanted them too.
I'm not saying that listening to your gut instincts is always the way to go, But a lot of time. It is.
Weigh The Risk & Rewards
This is why sometimes going with our brain is the best option. Our gut instinct may say "do it." But the reality is, there are more risk and fewer chances of reward.
This is a problem many have with gambling. I noticed that when I was watching a friend play at a casino.
My instincts kept encouraging me to put more money into the machine. But I ended up losing it all.
In this case, I should think of thought more logically, and my gut instinct failed me. The chances of you winning are incredibly small. Sure You still could, But Why risk your hard earned money?
I also noticed that deep down your brain has already decided on whether or not you want to pursue the opportunity. But for some reason you aren't always fully aware of it yet. I refer to that as the "lopsided" Pros and cons list. Many people suggest making a pros and cons list before making a decision.
To weigh the risk and rewards. While this can work to a certain extent. As each side of the list grows, Your brain starts having a bias on one side, and eventually, one side becomes significantly larger because your mind is already made up. Sometimes we want to do the opposing thing, But roadblocks such as fear, Are in the way. So we opt for the safer less difficult side.
Don't Think, Do
A lot of the time, We fail to listen to our gut instincts Because our brain comes in and gives us logical reasons to why we should, Or shouldn't do something. Not thinking about it, Prevents us from over thinking the entire situation.
We often go with what our brains are saying Because it seems logical. But sometimes we miss great opportunities from doing this.
When this happens with our brain, Sometimes it's better to just go with the harder, But potentially more rewarding opportunity. But again, Our brain sometimes wants us to go with the easier, Less demanding one. In this case, Force yourself to stop thinking about it, And start doing whats necessary to make the decision.
Often we CAN do those hard things, But we often don't. It's so much easier to stay home. And wish we were out doing those more difficult things. That's how you live a life of regret! Sure sometimes we mess up or embarrass ourselves. But we usually don't spend forever regretting it. Many of the people who saw us do the stupid thing Are random people that we may never see again. So who cares?
Things Will Never Be Perfect
We often make decisions when things seem "Perfect" The right amount of money; The right circumstances are set up.
But things will never be 100% perfect! You are better off just taking the opportunity whenever you can. Some opportunities don't come as often. And it's better to just take the risk anyways.
I like this article. There definitely holds a higher reward when you push yourself to make the harder decision. While uncomfortable for a short time, you'll usually be glad you did.
100% agree awesome words
Thank you
Honestly things may be challenging now but you will look back soon and think it was nothing . I have seen that as we grow, we face so many challenges that bring us to the ground but after we accomplish them, it makes us strong we , the wounds begin to heal. Nothing in this so called life will ever be easy, makes me always question the purpose of life then.. change may seem difficult now, but in the future, it was for the best. Time heals all pain
Thank you :) Agreed! I'll probably laugh at my self in this moment. I can't wait for things to get a bit easier.
Hang on tight :)
I think it creeps up on you whenever you are convinced that there are high stakes involved. We tend to procrastinate and overthink things that we feel could hurt us later. It's not like making business decisions, but in my final semester of my design degree, I deal with indecisiveness all the time. I overthink and can't make decisions on projects because I'm afraid that I'll go down the wrong path and get poor marks. What ends up happening is that I'll never get anything done and that's even worse. Not thinking and just doing is the only way to break out of that. Even if there's some risk of losing, it's better to make a decision than do nothing and have no chance of succeeding.
Perfectionism is an illusion:
The beard thing was funny.
Now, I will get back when I have grown beard.
Superb post @kaylinart.
Stay awesome and keep sharing and caring more.
Steem On!
LMAO But I don't have a beard yet either XDD
hahaha thank you! It totally is! things are never perfect and I love the GIF you used to describe that.
Where you are meant to be in life comes when it is meant to come, otherwise you get stuck being where you don't want to be. You are still working hard at getting there and it is always inspirational to know you aren't giving up which is something I am working on doing myself, working hard and not giving up.
Though yesterday for me was not constructive due to it being "one of those days" because of a random depression bout. But back to it today and determined to at least do something constructive. :)
Gut feeling tends to be the right move a lot of the time and not many listen to it, not when their mind tells them things to make indecisiveness play the bigger part, making it too late. I have gone against the gut at times in gambling and well some times I could have won a heap of money. :P
Great advice. That is one thing Im trying to do more in a way is wing it. Quit trying to make it perfect and just get it off "my desk"
Exactly! You don't do anything by sitting around.
Just finishing Think And Grow Rich. Same advice! Thanks for this!
WOW! LOVE THAT BOOK! haha.
@kaylinart, nice reading your post again after a long while. I've been sick for some time now.
I most confess, this post is timely as I've been having difficulty deciding on if to relocate to a different environment.
