One of the Most Expensive Meals I've Ever Had...Part 1

During the Christmas season, we traveled to Tokyo and had the pleasure of dining at a very classy restaurant, Ginza Ukai Tei. I cannot say enough about the presentation and immaculate decor.

The menu had several tasty options to choose from including albacore and beef entrees.

They decorated with pots of poinsettias along the walkway entrance.

And a white, metallic Christmas tree with a star.

With several beautiful crystals, which dangled from the bottom.

As we entered Ukai Tei, they had a tall Christmas tree decorated with dozens of red roses. There was also a large painting of a lady dressed in red.

The restaurant features an array of Japanese and Western antique furniture with an art-nouveau influence similar to that of a museum.

On the back wall was a Thai carving mounted up, and a large vase full of roses.

Beside that was an assortment of Japanese cookies available for purchase. They were displayed inside of a glass counter.

Here is a closeup of the tree of roses. Absolutely stunning! And a sideboard server with a mirror. It was dressed up with several glass figurines on a tray.

They also had red calla lilies in this artistic vase.

And a small Santa Claus figurine to keep with the Christmas decor.

And I cannot forget to mention this life-size music box.

image 14.jpg

It was playing instrumentals of White Christmas, such a pretty melody.

The staff was also very friendly and happy to help us.

They sat us down in the lobby to wait for a table to open. They had the option to reserve a table, but we didn't call ahead because we sort of just found this place on a whim.

Nonetheless, they were still able to get us seated in no time. Stay tuned to see the spectacular meal prepared for us, and the private rooms where dedicated chefs cook in front of you.

It's all about quality of life and finding a happy balance between work and friends and family.

There is something so hopeful about a diary, a journal, a new notebook, which Joan Didion and Virginia Woolf both wrote about. A blog. Perhaps we all are waiting for someone to discover us.

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

It was one of my dreams as a child, growing up in my little village with my cousins. We used to walk together, and I used to say, when you look at the world map, 'This town is there, that town is there, that river is there.' I used to say, 'One day, I'm going to travel these places.'
