Managing Your Medications While Traveling

in #life7 years ago

For those who travel for extended periods of time, it may not always be easy to ensure you'll have enough of your medication to last during your entire vacation. However, here are some useful tips to keep you on track.

(1) Appoint a trusted individual as your power of attorney who we will be in the local area while you're away. The purpose of this is for them to accept any prescriptions on your behalf and send them to you at your travel destination.

(2) Notify both your doctor and health insurance company of your travel plans in advance. Many insurance providers can usually provide prescription refills for up to 90 days unless given special permission by your doctor to extend them out for one year. This is where your power of attorney comes in handy as they can sign for your respective medications once they're refilled and send them to you.

(3) Ask your doctor to produce a letter listing all of your required medications and dosages. And keep a copy both with you and with your power of attorney to alleviate any issues with pharmacy staff not being able to release your medications.

(4) Use a shipping company like FedEx that can expedite your medications to you, and ensure all required documentation such as letters from the doctor are included in the package to reduce any delays with Customs.

(5) Ensure tracking information is provided for your package, so you will know when it has arrived.
