30 and single: Why are people so concerned with us meeting 'the one', when we're just looking to have some fun?
You wouldn't believe how many comments about 'finding the one up north' I've heard after I decided to quit my job and move to the mountains. If you want to know why I did that, you can read about it here :)
"What if you meet the one, and stay there?", "You're totally meeting him there" and my favorite: "... And if you meet the one when you're there, you'll for sure know that quitting your job and leaving was worth it." Why ... WHY do everyone think that meeting the one is the only purpose in life? I'm not gonna lie; I'd love to meet 'the one' one day, but that has nothing to do with me going on this adventure.
Who can resist us? ... This is what happens when you've got four days on a ferry to kill.
Because, to be honest, I'd be pretty optimistic if my solely reason of going to a town with around 10 000 people was to find my future someone. 10 000 people ... Half of them women. So then I'm left with around 5000. And out of that, who will be in my age range, single, hetero, not crazy, preferably a little funny, and then of course (the most important part) interested in me? I'm not great at math, but I'm pretty sure we are getting close to zero pretty fast.
The real reasons why I'm going on this adventure is to meet people, make new friends, grow as a person, challenge myself, get out of old habits, live a healthy and active life, try new things, see new things, eat new things, make memories, travel and so on. Because for me, life is about making the most of what you have and can get, not dwell on the past or what you can't get. Oh, and of course; enjoying the moment, like sitting in a ferry with this view, writing this post ... sigh.
Never mind the dirty windows.
With love from a happy and single Karianne, somewhere along the coast of Norway :)
Better to be single than to end up with someone you don't like. Kva er forresten fordelen ved å upvote eins eigen post? Har aldri tenkt på at det går an.. har det nokon praktisk betydning?
Amen!
While reading your article, I reflected on my own life. Seems we share the same point of view on life and I could be the author of this article if I only had your writing skills.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm sure your writing is just fine :)
nice story :) I have a similar one!
Good to see I'm not alone :)
Haha you made me smile :) Entertaining post, and well-written! I am honestly surprised that this seems to be such a great issue for your friends and relatives. I moved several times across different countries and cannot recall that this was ever an issue, besides perhaps some jokingly meant comments. Anyway, it's great that you embarked on this enriching journey, and I wish you lots of good experiences!
ps: how lucky you are to live in Norway! I looove Norway!
Glad I made you smile :) I guess for many people it’s the “next step” after you get an education, a house and a job - then you settle down. It’s just funny how everyone has made a comment about it, like that’s the most important thing in life. Oh, have you been many places in Norway? Where? :)
Yeah well, it probably is for many people, but life is not just a ladder you climb from "next step" to next step, isn't it? :) But then again, I have already found the love of my life, so what do I know? :) I just find it sad when people think it "must" happen - it happens when it happens, and until then, enjoy life. And if it doesn't happen, it's always better to be alone than with the wrong person.
I have in fact not yet been to Norway, but the areas around Bergen and Tromsø are on the top of my list. I plan to visit Norway twice next year. In spring, I will go to Bergen with my mother, because that was my gift to her 60th birthday (she has also always been a fan of Norway, but never went there, yet). And in autumn, I will go to Tromsø with my wife - we want to see the Northern lights! :) Where are you based? Do you have any favourite places already?
I totally agree. Life is for sure not a ladder, nor does it have a perfect recipe. And thank god for that!
Oh, that’s such a nice gift for your mom. I’m from Stavanger, but moving to Vesterålen as we speak (that’s why I’m on a ferry along the coast from Bergen -> Lofoten as we speak). I’ve never been to Tromsø, and haven’t seen the Northern Lights either, but in a couple of hours we are arriving north of the polar circle so there’s a chance I will see it tonight! Super excited :) I don’t have any tips for places up north, except Lofoten and Vesterålen, which is absolutely stunning, but hopefully I will get to travel a bit while I live there, and then of course I will share my best tips on Steemit:)
Woow I just looked at your other posts from yesterday. Taking the Hurtigruten must be so beautiful! I look forward for hearing more about your experiences. Are you originally from Stavanger? I noticed that you sometimes write your comment in what looks like Danish to me, so I assumed you were from Denmark? But of course, Norwegian is very similar. I just moved to Denmark this summer and started learning Danish recently, thats why I wondered :)
It really is! I've heard that taking Hurtigruten is amazing, but it's one of those things you have too see with your own eyes. In my first and second post I've posted a few pictures from Lofoten and Vesterålen, check them out - pretty amazing nature :) I'm from Stavanger yes, - Norwegian and Danish are very similar, especially in written. I believe we understand more of the Danish than they understand us :)
really? I thought it was the other way round haha. Danish can be very difficult to understand when pronounced, because of the many vowels. Men jeg kan godt forstår dansk når jeg læser det :) I heard a Norwegian say once that Danish sounds like a drunk Norwegian with a potato in his mouth! :D
HAHA, spot on! That's exactly what they sound like :) Good luck with learning, maybe you should learn Norwegian instead, that way you don't need that potato in your mouth ;)
You should come to philippines @raci to understand this post
Hahaha @gratefulayn why is that? 😅 would love to visit the Philippines though 😉
Hahhahahahha!!!!!!!!! 100% on point.
