LETS TALK ABOUT = RELIGION, (help me understand)
We all have a different idea about what a god is, man/woman who see's and hears everything, who listens to prays and wins over evil. With so much going on what keeps you believing.
There are so many religions, I did a search on google and found around 2014 there was 4, 200 different religions including Christianity, Roman Catholicism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Judaism. There are twelve classical world religions—those religions most often included in history of world religion surveys and studied in world religions classes: Baha'i, Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, and Zoroastrianism.
If we read the 10 commandments, the words god wrote on 2 tablets of stone say:
You shall not make idols.
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
You shall not covet.
These are all getting broken these days and nothing happens, so if these are the words of god why isn't he doing anything about them.
Something else I don't understand is the bible, who wrote it, where they there. The whole thing puzzles me that people can belief in something they have never seen or heard and there belief comes from a book. Help me understand.
Thank you son-of-satire

It's a really complicated topic... and one that often baffles me. As much as I have studied this in the course of my lifetime, the common thread seems to be that most people are uncomfortable with existence being rooted entirely in "facts;" they seek an "emotional" component which we call religion or spirituality.
Facts are cold; impersonal... means nobody is "special" in any way and we're all subject to the exact same "structure" of existence. Meaning, also, that WE are personally accountable for everything. Putting our faith in "something else" (other than the laws of physics), adds some intangible form of "warmth" to the experience of living. And I can totally appreciate that.
I guess the "problems" arise when human interpretation of this intangible becomes inconsistent. Christians have a God, Muslims have a God, Hindus have lots of Gods. Along with that, different interpretations of "God's power" and "God's laws."
To some, this might be blasphemy, but God did not write the Bible, people did. It's just another version of putting 50 people around a campfire, having a "wise elder" speak for six hours... and then asking those 50 people to write down what the wise elder said. You're going to end up with 50 "Books of the Wise Elder," all of them different.
The bottom line truism "God helps those who help themselves" is probably the closest to answering why nobody steps in to fix our messes...
But of course, that's just my perception!
Thank you, It astounds me how some people keep there faith after something bad happens. Do we ever here about as many miracles as we do disasters. Where did there faith come from. I have seen and heard people thanking god for things that happen in the life. How can you believe in something that's not there?
The thing that scares me is the number of people who believe they would be "horrible people" were it not for the "Fear Of God."
OK.... so you're telling me that you're naturally a really shitty person who'd steal, rape and pillage absent some "outside force" you're fearful will judge you negatively? Are there really THAT many "nasty" people in the world... and is the only thing that prevents chaos a belief in something unknown and unknowable? Now that? THAT's scary...
Some people work there life around god, they believe he/she will look after them. How can you put all your life in the lap of someone they have never met. I want to hear both sides where there belief comes from
The answer to your question about why bad things happen is right there on page 1. God created everything and turned it over to us (who He created in his image) to manage...We made it all the way to page 3 before we started screwing it up! So, if you want to know why God allows bad things to happen, you're asking the wrong question. The proper question is why do I let bad things happen?
Yes hunan beings are messing the world up, thank you for your reply :)
Very good questions. Some time back I was wondering the same. As I tried to research it I found out that many religions devide the world into good and evil. In their view all good comes from God and all evil from Satan (the names differ). Many religions see life as a test. If you pass you will go to heaven if not, hell is the place for you. Religious people take comfort in the fact that no matter how much hardship they face, when they fight evil, everything will be alright in the end. Because they will be in paradise.
I personally do not believe in the bad vs evil concept. But I see the comfort in believing all will be alright in the end.
I hope this was somewhat helpful. :)
Everyone thinks differently I am glad to read how you think. Its a massive concept that baffles me so much. It's good to know others feel the same .
Excellent post dear friend, @ karenb54, the problem is not a matter of faith, nor of religion.
Vo and to use the words of @ richq11 ¿Why do we let it happen? This would prevent much happening, perhaps not all, but much of it.
thanks for sharing
Thank you for your input :)
