The Holy History
Holy
Rudus is a sharp weapon in the form of a sword or machete which became one of the traditional weapons from Bengkulu. Rudus is also a sharp weapon that has the largest size in Bengkulu. This traditional weapon is also a traditional weapon from Bengkulu which is influenced by the culture of Malay society. From many articles about this weapon it seems there are many misunderstandings about the visualization. Images shown to visualize this weapon show Badik or Rambai Ayam. In contrast to articles from within the country precisely I conclude from the outside article that the true picture of Rudus is what I show here. One of the reasons is because this weapon is in the Bengkulu logo, and can be matched with the image on the outside article.
Rudus As a Traditional Weapon
Traditional weapons on the island of Sumatra, especially Bengkulu have a strong influence of the Malay tribe. Rudus itself Bengkulu area is a traditional weapon that became a symbol of the Malay community in Sumatra. Not only in the Bengkulu area, many other areas in Sumatra make this weapon an identity of their culture, such as the people of Aceh and the Malay community in Bengkulu. Apart from that Rudus also became one of the weapons that developed rapidly in other areas outside the island of Sumatra as in the area of Banjar in South Kalimantan.
Weapons with very similar shapes to this weapon are Cojang or Co Jang in Aceh. One that is identified as this weapon as shown in the feature image above. The weapon is in the inlay or in the gold with the mention of the identity of the owner of Muhammad Salih from Terumon in Payang Village. This weapon originated in 1835. Unfortunately I did not get information about who Muhammad Salih was.
Rudus, Co Jang or Cojang
Although the Museum of Art in America that holds this collection says this sword comes from Kuala Berang, but the real Terumon imprinted on the blade of the weapon is close to the name of the village of Trumon in South Aceh. Nevertheless from the information about this Kingdom of Trumon which states that in 1812-1835 Kingdom is led by Teuku Raja Bujang then continued by Teuku Raja Mak Areh different from the name of the owner who in the stir in the bar arms it arises the question who actually Muhammad Salih this . Payang village itself is located in South Bengkulu area which is now known as Muara Payang.
Rudus and Co Jang are special swords found only in Indonesia especially Aceh and Bengkulu so according to the museum's description this sword could be made in Aceh and decorated in Malaysia.
Further information on the sword is written Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Shad which is the opening of Surah Maryam hijrah on 27 Jumaidil End of year 1251 or 20 October 1835. Mr. Muhammad Salih from Terumon Kingdom who mentatah in Payang village. La hawla wa-al-quwwata ila billah al-'ala al-'azim. wa-huwa al-Latif al-Khabir.
Since Malay people on the island of Sumatra are predominantly Muslim, this is certainly influenced by the period of Islamic religion in Indonesia so that many small kingdoms are fighting each other. In Bengkulu itself, there are so many empires and sultanates that in the former times were very glorious, such as the Sultanate of Sungai Serut, Pat Petulai, Gedung Agung, and various other kingdoms.
