THE RIGHTFUL OWNER

Once, there was a farmer who stayed with four sons at the middle of the village and owned a few farm lands with cows. Everyone in the village knew him as a quiet farmer. Instead of talking or having conversation with someone, most of the time he was busying with his jobs alone. Even his sons and wife seldom had conversation with him. Always busy with farm lands for cultivating or house work, the only person he had conversation was the monk of the village. Every Sabbath day he went to the monastery and had been being discussed with the monk about the spiritual life and the teaching of Lord Buddha.
Most of the villagers knew that the quiet farmer and the monk were friend, and they had been served to the British Army during WW II. After the WW II, the two friends were separated for many years. When the two friends meet again, one became monk and the other became farmer.

After the quiet farmer‘s four sons were married they separated from their farther house. One day the elder son came to his father house and asked his father to share his inheritance. And the other three sons did the same. Now the quite farmer and his wife became getting old and unable to work anymore. The old man and his wife agreed with four sons that the properties of old man divided into four and each share for each son. And the poor old man and his wife will stay one month each in each son’s house.

After staying three week in elder son’s house, the daughter- in-law started aggravate them. And she incited to her husband that the old couple were doing nothing and wasting of their foods. At first, the elder son just ignored what the wife said and the poor old couple moved to the second son’ house. Worst to come, the second son denied taking care his father and mother. And the third son’s house, sadly, the third son didn’t even open the door gate for his poor father and mother. Finally, the poor old couple moved to the youngest son’s house and the youngest son was not at home. With tear, the old couple bagged to their daughter-in-law allowed them to stay only one night, and promised her that the next day they will move to the monastery.

At that fateful night, the mother of four sons, the wife of the quite farmer died on the youngest son’s house. After the mother’s funeral, the four sons were fighting each other for their mother funeral expenses. With sorry heart, the old man slowly walked away and decided to sponge on to his friend, the monk. The whole village was talking about the poor old man and his four cruel sons.
