Firstly let me say what a lovely little dog Shira was and obviously you miss her. Good post and true as people need animals in their lives, sadly I no longer have pets, but my grandchildren do and I enjoy theirs. I have wept buckets over the loss of pets in the past as they become family members and are always good to have around.
