Now That The End Is Near

Preparation has always proved essential to man so he will be able to sufficiently meet his needs when the time comes. Aren't we also familiar with the lesson taught in the Bible about the ants storing up food during summer so they will not be caught off guard and go hungry during winter. But more than ensuring a better life on earth, there is something that man should all the more prepare for.

What does the Bible forewarn man of what is to come which is the very reason he should always take time and effort to prepare. We are taught by the Holy Scriptures that the Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon as taught by the Lord himself in the gospel of Luke, there are signs indicating when His return is near.

When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places and fearful events and great signs from heaven. There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming to the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great story. (Luke 21:30-31, 11, 25-27)

We are living witnesses of such foretold events that have been fulfilled until today in different parts of the world. Multiple deaths have been brought about by earthquakes that have been occurred all around the globe while millions continue to suffer from deep poverty and famine due to lack of resources. These things have left man wondering what to do next or have prompted him to come up with solutions but more often than not to no avail. But these events were already forewarned by the Lord Jesus Christ to make everyone realize that it is his duty to prepare accordingly for His second coming which is the day of Judgement to attain salvation.

Preparing and Planning

Because of this event, what does the Almighty God expect us to do so that we will not be caught unaware? He commanded us to be up and awake to what we are doing because He is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work He began.

How then can we show God and the Lord Jesus that we are up, awake and prepared for that day and worthy of receiving salvation?

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day the heavens will disappear with a shrill noise, the heavenly bodies will burn up and be destroyed and the earth and everything in it will vanish. Since all these things will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people should you be?  Your lives should be holy and dedicated to God.

In view of the fact that the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ will be sudden, what did He instruct man? He commanded man to be ready. Thus, preparation is of utmost importance as regards the impending day of Judgment. How then can man prepare for the imminent end of the world?

One should strive to be a member of the Church of Christ as part of his preparation for the day of Judgment and in order to be among those who are worthy of attaining salvation. In addition, those who prepare themselves also lead a holy way of life and have rid themselves of their former sinful ways. By completely renewing our lives we will not be caught unprepared on that great day of the Lord.

Those who prepare for the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ by continuously worshipping and serving God and remains active in his faith whatever happens in his life is not at the losing end, instead, he stands to gain. Such was the conviction of the Apostle Paul in his statement when he realized that the things that are considered significant in this life are worthless compared to the greater reward.
