Should Steemit Sponsor A Monster Cup Car...?

in #life7 years ago

Quick show of hands...how many NASCAR fans do we have here in the Steemit community...? Better yet...how many in the Steemit community would really like to see it take off...? Every once in awhile a great opportunity comes along...one that could be the difference between achieving global dominance, and just being an also ran...and believe it or not...just such an opportunity might be available for the Steemit community.

As luck would have it, Furniture Row Racing, the one car team of drive Martin Truex Jr., fielded a second Monster Cup entry this year for the first time, and filled the driver's seat with none other than rookie Erik Jones...and they landed 5-Hour Energy as the primary sponsor for that 2nd car. Over the last couple of seasons the sport has lost some of its top drivers...Jeff Gordon & Tony Stewart officially retired, and Carl Edwards simply walked away unexpectedly...and the end of this season will see even more changes among drivers and teams...Dale Earnhardt Jr., has announced his retirement, and Matt Kenseth has been told he will no longer occupy the driver's seat of the #20 car for Joe Gibbs Racing...that seat will go to Erik Jones after just one year behind the wheel of a Cup car...this leaves the #77 car without a driver...and without a sponsor

Now, I'll be the first to admit...I don't know a lot about Steemit, even though I am rapidly approaching my 1 year anniversary as a member...but I do know that it isn't as main stream as I'm sure most members wish it would be...and that's because advertising for the site/community is almost 100% self-generated...you don't see ads for Steemit on FB or Twitter unless you share your post to those communities, and even then you're likely to see less traffic because the douchebags behind the scenes write algorithms to stifle anything they view as direct competition for a share of their marketplace...that being said, a NASCAR sponsorship could pole vault this community past some of the more well-established social media giants currently in business...and I don't know about you folks, but nothing would make me happier than to see Steemit carve a big enough niche for itself that the 1st Amendment restricting sites like FB & Twitter find themselves competing with MySpace for customer attention...

Admittedly, sponsoring a Monster Cup car in NASCAR's top circuit is fairly expensive, especially if it's done as a primary sponsor for an entire season...costs could exceed $35 million...which pans out to roughly $1 million per race. That type of sponsorship may be a little too much for the Steemit community to absorb...but there are other options...such as secondary sponsorship, and even associate sponsorship...both of which are significantly cheaper, averaging in the neighborhood of $250,000 up to $2 million...mind you those are 2013 prices, so it's probably adjusted a bit since then...but there are also very small, affordable sponsorship packages that might help bring the Steemit community some much needed attention and breathe new blood into the blockchain...take a look at some of these single race package prices.

Then there's this interesting little info-graphic that sheds some light on the amount of traffic associated with NASCAR sponsorship at the Monster Cup level...now, I'm no ringleader...nor do I have the business sense to get the ball moving on a project of this magnitude...but I thought I would put this piece together and get it out there in the hopes that others might think it worthy enough to forward to the right people in the Steemit community who could get the logistics dialed in for something like this. That being said...if you like this idea, feel free to run with it...share it with your friends and family here in the Steemit community and maybe...if enough people like the concept, we can get something rolling before the 2018 season and carve a lane for ourselves on the race track. Thanks for taking the time to read this...feel free to resteem for further discussion and input...I'd truly like to know what the community thinks! Have a great day!
