I am awed by the size and space of a cathedral and the atmosphere is usually 'holy'. I was once in one where in the centre a regular service was going on and we tourists were viewing the statues etc around and about. Some people were chatting as though they were in a cafe and I didn't like that!
I felt as though I was intruding......and left.

thanks for your reply! It's interesting why we feel this way... What makes it "holy"? Is it our prior beliefs, the architecture, the people, or an actual something going on here?
