[What To Do] When The Rain Soaked My Laptop

in #life7 years ago (edited)
Howdy Steemians?

The weather here is outrageous and I felt so dismayed with the never ending downpour.

So, what's the big deal?

I spent the entire day searching for another job as my other freelance project has concluded already. While waiting yet for another gig from the same company, I decided to move in to a more comfortable space in the living room, where I could conveniently stretch out my legs on the sofa while browsing for a different job from another employer.

At around 2 in the afternoon, the rain which hasn't stopped since morning has now terribly gone heavy crazily. I started to feel drowsy and decided to go to the bedroom to grab some pillow to take it with me to the living room, so I could take a nap there.

When I came back, in just a matter of minutes, I became absolutely panicky because my laptop was soaked with rain water.

Fact check: Apparently, our ceiling was not totally in good condition, so that the rain came down happily from the holes on the roof, down to the ceiling, down to my laptop.

It was a definite BULLSEYE!

Red Alert!

I was kind of freaking out. What if it gets damaged? What if it will no longer function properly? What would I do if I lose my precious aid that has helped me gain sources of my income.

What do I have to do after the rainwater soaked the keyboard of my laptop?

I went on to google some advise, on what to do, and texted my friend who's an expert in electric stuff, right away. I basically got the same first-aid solution to the problem. Perhaps this list could help you out too, if you'll encounter the same problem in the future (but, mind you, I do hope not because it would be such a hassle).

Here's the summary:
  • I shut down the laptop.
  • Take out the battery.
  • Turn it upside down so that it would appear like a triangle shape.
  • I let it dry using an electric fan. (I asked my friend if it's okay if I use a hair dryer instead. He told me it's fine but I have to make sure the heat is just enough and not too close to the machine. I no longer asked why, I just followed what he told me).

UPDATE

As of press time, the electric fan is still on it. I wanted to really make sure it is already dry before I turn it back on. Better safe than sorry, guys!

Moral of the story. Always stay alert. Never take anything off of your eyes one bit most especially on the things that's essential on your everyday living. Don't hesitate to ask for help especially when you're not in focus.

I am still a bit pissed by myself and by the rain. Yet, I have to let it go and just move on and learn from it.
