A Sunday of Much Culture and Fun on the Historic Streets of Recife
Sunday here in the historic area of Recife is always very busy. Throughout the day it is possible you see in the narrow streets that make the neighborhood of Old Recife several people, groups of friends, whole families, young people, children, adults and elderly people coming to this part of the city to enjoy the Sunday.
Whether it's just walking, cycling through the bridges that are closed to cars today, allowing only pedestrians and cyclists to ride, go to the mall at Cais da Alfândega, sit down to eat some typical food accompanied by a beer in the several bars that today are open and crowded with people at all your tables among other various attractions and activities that are available.
To get to the Zero Point of the city (Marco Zero), it is necessary to cross the Buarque de Macedo Bridge, which is the largest bridge in the city, that link the Island of Santo Antônio with the Island of Recife. Today it is closed to cars so we can walk freely through it without fear of being run over.
Arriving at the Port of Recife (Cais do Porto do Recife), we can see several people crowding the restaurants that stay in this place, as well as many cultural events. I was struck by this group that played Maracatu, a style of music originating here brought by the African slaves who came to Brazil In the XVIII century. The drums make the sound that makes everyone start to enjoy the rhythm and accompany the song.
Going to Rua da Moeda, we found a presentation in the middle of street of Mamulengos.
Mamulengo is a popular theater made with cloth dolls, in a very simple setting, in which the manipulators of the dolls give life to them talking, gesticulating and creating funny stories that make all those who accompany the show laugh from the beginning to the end of the presentation. The children love and see the presentation attentively. Adults like me, too.
In the late afternoon, I can already see an intense movement in the historic Street of the Jews where every Sunday have the craft fair in this place.
I already made a post telling a little about this fair. Here we find all kinds of local crafts, such as leather sandals, shirts, women's handmade clothes, books, wooden articles for home decoration and also some snack stalls and cafes.
Muito interessante!
