Here's my Personal Approach on How to Build the Steemian Integrity
Today, I want to talk about Integrity and how this core value affects our Steemit Community
According to Merriam-Webster,
Integrity is the firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values. Hence, incorruptibility.
According to Wikipedia,
Integrity is the qualifications of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. It is generally a personal choice to hold oneself to consistent moral and ethical standards.
According to Charles Marshall,
Integrity is doing the right thing when you don’t have to—when no one else is looking or will ever know—when there will be no congratulations or recognition for having done so.
For me, in my own words,
Integrity is simply keeping your word, being honest and if you respond to your circumstances in an ethical and moral manner, and produce results consistent with what you say.
So, how are we going to apply this in our community?
Here's my take into this:
- If you consistently do the best that you can, with integrity, you will gain your desired outcome.
- Having one personality in Steemit and another for you "personal life" can be unnecessarily stressful. You will find that being your authentic self at all times - in other words, maintaining a state of wholeness or integrity will yield you the greatest success.
- Never judge or underestimate people by their physical appearance (I hate Racists) and blog contents. People who will be a part of your journey in being a Whale come in all weights, heights, shapes, sizes and colors.
- Never break your commitments. Breaking them will result in disappointments and frustrations in the community.
- Unethical behaviors or attitude will corrupt you and repels people.
- Never complain in Steemit. Instead, let's uplift one another. This will create a positive vibe in the community.
- Always check if you're still true to your intentions, stated intentions should always match your results.
- Strive for excellence. This will greatly increase your integrity.
- Always take the high road, even when the alternative is enticing.
- Never lose your sense of purpose. Burnout should just be a word and should never be a part of us.
At the end of the day, these are mere bullets to everyone who will just glance and scan through it.
But, if you take it seriously, YOU and the STEEMIT COMMUNITY will benefit from this.
Writing articles gets you to be part of the community. But taking the initiative to instill core values to everyone will make it significant.
Like the usual saying, You cannot give what you don't have.
So gain your foundation first by simultaneously building your core values to help the Steemit Community.
This may not be the same for everyone but I hope I'm able to help someone like me.
Just one person to help in this community is enough for me to continue writing. Thanks!
Congratulations on the improvements bro! Very nice insights on having core values. ;)
Learned a lot from you. Thanks bro @eastmael

You seem to have a good head on your shoulders and I like the way you are thinking in this blog. You said
"For me, in my own words,

I have found a big problem in the world when it comes to "ethics" and "morals." There are a wide range of ideas and beliefs about what is ethically and/or morally right and a lot of those differences seems to be tied to the area that you live in and your overall philosophy in life.
Personally I believe in moral absolutes, in other words I reject the modern philosophy of situational ethics. The important thing to me is who has the authority to establish those absolutes and how do we determine exactly what they are?
Ethics and morals do not always seem to have direct ties with one another and thus we have many wide ranging ethical differences generally separated by regions and peoples. I live in a City and County in the State of Alabama in the United States of America, most of the people that I know and see every day are by birth U.S. citizens. But I can go down the road to a nearby city or over to the adjoining County and find that those people use a slightly different code of ethics in their day to day lives. Here we have such terms as "The Code of the Hills" or "The code of the West" that tries to illustrate and quantify those different codes of ethics.
So how do we as a worldwide community deal with a vast array of differing morals, ethics, codes and values? About the only fair way that I know of to do this is to make a list concerning the acceptable code of ethics that are to be adhered to on Steemit and get it ratified by(?) and include a set agreed upon penalty for non-compliance. After these are established it would then be up to the community to hold each other accountable for the adherence to this code of ethics.
It is my understanding that this has already been done, at least in part, but a system probably needs to be established so that additions and changes can be easily made as previously un-thought of issues and scams arise.
So keep thinking on these things and putting them out there for discussion, this community is growing rapidly and right now it is a little above anarchy but not yet at the stage of a full fledged governing system.
@deaconless Thank you so much for taking time to read my post. I may not have explained further about ethics and morals but I certainly agree with you about moral absolutes and situational ethics.
