How does kid develop phobia to a certain aspect in childhood? How can it be prevented?

Hello. Nice question. The thing about kids is that their minds are like blank sheets of paper. When we're young, everything we see and learn is tantamount in moulding who we are when we grow up. So as kids, the slightest shock could create a fear that's very hard to deal with when we grow up. When I was a kid, my family and I lived in this small flat with a tiny bathroom. I never really liked it because of how small it was so whenever I showered, I'd leave the door open just so it would feel bigger. I could close the door but i just wasn't too comfortable with it. Then one day my brother locked me in the bathroom for a few minutes. I kicked and screamed to get out and after a while I felt like the walls were coming down on me. From that day to this day I've been claustrophobic.

What I'm trying to say is that every phobia is born from one bad experience that wasn't handled well. To avoid this we have to take good care of our kids. And if they should have a scare like the one I just described then we have to do our best to help them overcome it while they are still young so it doesn't grow as they grow up.
