Italy is a victim of its own culture based on nepotism, raccomandazione, suspicion towards foreigners, and short sighted family businesses that cannot see beyond their nearest campanile. With the fall of the Berlin Wall the world has changed for ever.....but many Italians are still filled with nostalgia.
But the boot has always been a land of clever engineers and great artists. It will survive and reinvent itself in some way.
