Today December 8 in my Country Argentina is commemorated the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, in honor of the virgin is arbolito and manger Christmas, This feast in Mexico is known as the Divine Infantita or Our Lady of The Nativity.
In my province of Corrientes, over the years have lost the festivities of our ancestors, last year I was lucky to go to a place here in my province and see that they kept the old traditions, this reminded me The preparations for the parties of my childhood.
A trip back in the tunnel of time, when I was five years old, the preparation of the Christmas holidays was an event, we began to prepare the materials with a lot of time in advance.

The truth I do not remember if for that time the Christmas decorations were sold in my province, I think so! Our economic situation and the place where we lived did not allow us to buy anything and we managed with what we had within our reach.

The Christmas tree was a tree cut from the mountain, the whole family would go to the forest in search of the tree of espinillo, we selected the best arrangement of branches had, the tree of espinillo is the original used by our ancestors to make the Christmas tree .
The ornaments were fruits of pines, duck eggs or ostrich colored with tempera, the manger we built wood and the roof of straws, all this was placed inside a large room where the parties were celebrated, other people of the neighborhood went more There, they built a large Christmas tree with a living crib, this was the closest thing to the original feasts, but they were still undergoing great changes.
This traditional feast of the Guarani is held in Asunción of Paraguay, they call it Christmas or "Niño Ára". It begins on December 8 and ends on December 25 with the birth of the baby Jesus.

On December 8, the inhabitants of Paraguay begin with a pilgrimage from their homes to the church of Nuestra Señora de Caacupé, this walk symbolizes the journey made by the baby Jesus to Bethlehem.
The anguish tell the story of the beginning of this pilgrimage, in 1603, an indigenous Guarani went into the jungle in search of wild fruits, was surprised by a large jaguar, the Indian in a nimble movement reached a large tree Of urunday, trepo up to the crown of the tree, followed by the enraged animal that was trying to reach him, in this situation fearing for his life was entrusted to the virgin and promised to be saved to construct two images similar to the virgin with the own wood Of the urunday tree.
A celestial act wrapping a blanket of protection to the Indian, making the animal give up chasing the Guarní, after time he fulfilled his promise, he cut a branch of the urunday and carved the two images of the virgin, one left in his native city of Tobatí , The other image completed a journey to reach his home.

That year the valley suffered a great flood caused by the overflow of Lake Tapaicuá, the villagers prayed and asked the waters to calm down and return to normal, count the anxieties that the Brother Luis de Bolaños relied on the power of God I struck a stone with its crucifix asking the waters to cry out, the prayers did not wait and the waters returned to that moment to the normality.
Gathered on the shore of the lake, the people of the village and the father giving thanks for what happened, saw a bundle emerging from the water, recovered the object and it was a wooden chest, inside jealously guarded the image of the virgin of The immaculate conception.
This was the virgin carved by the hands of the indigenous Guaraní who pilgrim and in his step was surprised and dragged by the waters of the great flood, when he was overcome he had no choice but to deliver the copper to the raging waters of the lake.
The virgin continued with her pilgrimage until arriving at the City of Caacupé, this is the origin of the pilgrimage that the inhabitants of Paraguay make every December 8 to Caacupé as a sign of faith.
In this region is very popular the celebration of the mass of rooster, consists of attending the church to witness a mass in the good night before the twelve of the night.
Mass is called the "ad galli cantus" which means the crowing of the rooster, to give way to the new day and receive the coming of the baby Jesus.
Another very popular thing in the region is the visit of relatives and neighbors who must travel great distances for the family reunion, in this event you can not miss Paraguayan soup, guaca guinea, baked chicken, cider, pineapple fizz And the popular fruit salad or clericó, which is prepared with abundant seasonal fruits mixed with orange juice and red wine.
