Deadly Blue Whale Challenge Enters in India, Takes Life of a Teenager!

A fourteen-year-old boy from Mumbai allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the parapet terrace of his 7th floor flat last week.

An online game called- Blue Whale Challenge has spread across several countries and taken lives of hundreds of teenagers.

Now these two tragic news headlines of grave concern, read separately, make no sense; right?

Let me break this up for you.

On July 29; a fourteen-year-old boy from Mumbai’s Andheri (East) who was a Class 9 student in an international school, was spotted by a neighbor walking on the parapet while shooting what looked like a selfie video.

Reportedly, he was continuously chatting with his friends on social media where he even conveyed his intentions of committing suicide, but everyone brushed it off and thought that it might be a joke.

He even posted a picture of him sitting like that with the caption “Soon the only thing you would be left with is a picture of me”.

The boy jumped down from the terrace as soon as he saw his neighbor coming his way and sadly, killed himself.
Senior police officials said they have not found anything in the boy’s mobile phone and his parents are unaware of any reasons behind the suicide. However, the boy’s friends on certain WhatsApp groups chatted about his death being linked to the Blue Whale challenge.

Okay but wait, what is The Blue Whale Challenge?
.Believed to have originated in Russia, this cold-blooded game (which is actually far from a game) encourages young teens who accept the challenge to complete a series of 50 evil and disturbing tasks.

.The tasks at hand become increasingly menacing over time and ironically to win; at the end of the game the player is asked to take their own life.

.Blue Whale’s tasks are not detrimental in the beginning like watching a scary movie, but slowly grow increasingly dangerous like cutting oneself. The players are even supposed to send the evidence of their completion to the game’s administrator who then qualifies them to attempt the next task.

.The name Blue Whale Challenge has been derived from a common belief that Blue Whales end their own lives by voluntarily beaching themselves.

.According to reports, Philipp Budeikin creator of Blue Whale Challenge was arrested earlier this year in Russia.

It’s appalling and extremely unfortunate that an innocent boy committed suicide under the influence of this inhuman game. Game? Nope.

This is no challenge or a game; this is a monster, this is the Blue Whale itself feeding on the society’s small and vulnerable fishes.

It is our collective responsibility to fight against this monster and defeat it at all costs and on all levels.
