A Look Inside the Infamous Kingston Polygamist Clan: Introduction

I want to begin a series about the Kingston Polygamist Clan that is located primarily throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

This topic can be pretty in depth so I want to start out answering a few of the more simple questions people have on the subject as to not overwhelm readers. Hopefully this will give you, the reader, some more familiarity with the topic before I delve into the more complex parts of Mormon Fundamentalism; aka polygamist cults.

To start out, polygamy was introduced into Mormonism with their first prophet Joseph Smith. It was abolished in the Mormon Church in 1890 when the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Edmunds-Tucker Act. This only stopped polygamy from being lived out in the open. Different individuals were sent to live and practice “God’s law of Celestial Marriage” in different parts of the world. Some men and their families were told to remain hidden throughout the Western United States. These practices have continued to the present day. There are practicing Mormon Fundamentalist groups in the USA, Mexico, Canada, and England with the majority of members residing throughout the Western United States.

Many splinter groups have formed since the practice of polygamy was abolished in the mainstream Mormon faith. The main groups include the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints (FLDS), Later Day Church of Christ (the Kingston group; aka The Order), the Apostolic United Brethren (AUB), and various different independent groups.

I was able to explore all of the different groups as a teenager but I will primarily focus on the Kingston clan as this was the group I was enmeshed in for the first 19 years of my life.

I don’t want to go too in-depth into the intro because it could become a series in itself and is quite complex.

I do hope that this very brief explanation at least gives you a little back information. I'll cover everything else in brief posts throughout the series.

I'm excited to begin this journey with you as I feel that this topic should be more widely known. These groups have lived "in the dark" far too long.

Lol. Just wait! Everything I go into will just bring up more questions... It is all quite fascinating.

I'm very curious to see the next instalment in this series. I don't have any specific questions, though. But there will be some, I think. Good luck. ;-)

There are always questions! Lol. Ask anything as it comes up. I've always said, ask, because most of the assumptions are incorrect! And it's fun to learn and teach!

Thanks for reading!

I have heard most of the wives of a man will collect State Aid, is this generally true?

Here is the link to create an animated signature. You can change the font, color, symbol, etc. And is has no watermark, no attribution needed, and completely free :) @greatbear introduced this to me after I fell in love with her terribly adorable rolling bear icon :) Thanks again Bear!

Yes! They all collect state aid. The first wife may not always because she is the legal wife but the others do. I’ll have to do a post about it because it gets pretty involved on how and what they do in this regard!

And thanks! I can’t wait to check it out.

Who would get in trouble if found out? Both the man and the false wife? Or just her because they are not legally married? Or all the wives that live there that are collecting?

The leaders get in trouble. All three of the groups I mentioned have been in trouble with the Feds for food stamp fraud. Two of the groups paid hefty fines. The last, the FLDS, is still ongoing. Some of the men at the top have gone to prison, some are still being tried.

Oh wow. And what happens to the women and children of this? How do they get by then?

Same way they always do! The men don't support them to begin with, so they keep working and keep living off the government. It doesn't stop. The men at the top usually pay the fine and go on living like they always do. It only happens every 20+ years so it is well worth paying a half a million every so often to keep doing what they are doing...

The recent FLDS investigation is the first time anyones seen any jail time so we'll see if this changes.

Holy hell. Yea, and so difficult to catch in the first place, they are masters of manipulating the system it sounds like

They truly are. :-(

I did it! Lol. Only took an hour to find a dang question mark. ;-)

lol

Looks beautiful!!!
