There is so much to be grateful for

It happens especially when I feel relaxed and calm. Then I lie in bed, for example, and suddenly realize - and this sounds stupid - how nice the clean sheets feel to my skin . Or then I walk outside to the station, and suddenly realize how beautiful the clouds are and how special a train actually is.

The small, fine things give life a shine. And the more often you know how to appreciate them, the more radiant your day will be.

But it does not always happen automatically .

Because as soon as I feel busy - and lost in thought - I suddenly find sheets, clouds and trains self-evident. Then I only get happy with the big things, like finishing my task list.

These are not the days that I radiate. Such a day contains few moments that I look back on with warm feelings.

How normal pumpkin soup becomes heavenly

Normally I do not look up from a simple pumpkin soup. I stuff a bowl, put my sandwich in it and eat it while I watch something on YouTube. I like the soup, but it is what it is.

'But sometimes it is completely different.' For example when I am fasting for a day. Then I do not eat anything for 24 hours, from dinner to dinner. When it becomes time to prepare the soup, it turns out to be an intense experience .

I enjoy working with the ingredients. I am completely absorbed in the smell of the onions, garlic and red pepper. And when the soup is simmering, my stomach is almost as hard. Full of anticipation.

And when I finally eat, it tastes like the tastiest soup on earth . The same simple pumpkin soup - which I otherwise sipped inside - has been transformed into an intense experience that I enjoy immensely.

You can choose to enjoy more small things

Life is full of little things. And nobody will blame you if you overlook them. You can not enjoy all the little things in your life with attention and pleasure - not all day long.

But on the other hand - no one blames you if you would take the trouble to appreciate certain things with a little more attention.

Because your ability to enjoy small, everyday moments determines in part how radiant and happy you go through your days .

The better you become in trials of your life , the more satisfaction, pleasure, fulfillment and gratitude you will experience on a daily basis.

And that is quite worth it.

How can you become better at it?

It starts with the realization that you can start with it whenever you want. Even if you have been living in your head all day. You can press the pause button at any time and start enjoying the little things.

And gradually you will notice that there are a few things that you always have on hand ,

such as your body and your breathing. In many mindfulness exercises you learn to consciously observe the stimuli that your body experiences. That can help you enjoy fine sensations, such as your skin against clean sheets.

Yoga has helped me to realize how nice it is to sit in your body. How much I can - if I calm myself - enjoy simple breathing and movement.

But there's more. The smell of coffee , the soothing buzz in the library, great music, the smell of fresh air in the autumn, a cup of tea on the couch, a glass of wine, a nice meal.

Look around in your living room and reflect on your frustels that bring out positive memories. Showering in a clean bathroom. Chatting with a good friend, walking in the woods, a nice feast or a sweet gift you receive.

Working attentively on a task, appreciating the design of a building, watching people in the park, quietly watching a bird in the window frame, enjoying your cat while he is washing, observing the atmosphere during a party or enjoying the raindrops the window or your face.

If you search then you will find it . All around you.

What enjoy small things for you

If you manage to enjoy small things on a daily basis, you will find yourself feeling happier. You will experience that life begins to flow more. As if you have stepped into a warm rapids that gently take you to a nice place .

While you get a cocktail at the same time. It does not get better.

Enjoying small things helps you see the beautiful, all around you . It gives you many more reasons to feel grateful and satisfied. And this feeling helps you reduce stress and anxiety. You realize very strongly that your life is okay, and that there is not much that needs to change before you can be satisfied.

Because you are already more than satisfied with that delicious hot soup and a dress over your toes.

Give it a try. Calm yourself and look around you. What do you see? What do you feel? Which things do you like and nice?

Bring your pace down and experience your life more consciously .

Because if you manage to enjoy the feeling of clean sheets on your bare skin, then there is nothing that stops you from shining every day. 😊
