Flashing Cursor - Meditations

in #life8 years ago

The position of the cursor flashes and I wonder why? Why even notice it, the blink, and what does it mean?

As an adept, I know how it is done, there is a switch in the graphics display iteration with an on and off period during idle time. This is simple enough but in movies, we often see the cursor visible and then invisible and it means something in whatever picture we watch at the cinema or at home. In different movies it means different things but most notably none of it answers why?

Is it to beckon, to call, does it stimulate the mind? Why not just have a non-blink where the character position is stable and always visible? A placeholder is a necessary thing so invisible all the time would do no good at all but blink?

I do not have epilepsy, where a flashing red light can invoke a seizure in certain epileptics if they fixate upon the flash but sometimes one wonders at the flashing cursor and what does it mean?

It flashes on and off every second, or about a half second on and a half second off. Why is it so, and does it result in drivel, anyone know?

So it is a clock ticking, a reminder of the time while one sits and ponders what it is to write and what to write.

Whole worlds and universes are spawned like like mushrooms rising in the dew. One moment there is nothing and then something grows anew. Characters and situations are given birth and rise. Loves sweetest sonnets while bitter hates rival, each and every emotion capably captured, like an actor performs on stage the writer plays the page.

Whether or not it is good or bad, one closes the eyes so as not to be sad that what is written or not will grow like a blood clot. Or be a field forever not sown, fallow from spring until fall, invisible under the snows of winter, filled with weeds the whole living year?

So as one sits and wonders each and every day, while the seconds of time just tick away, is life just a flashing cursor? Or is life what's in between the precursor, or flashing precursor?

A writer, @elewarne, said she sat there in peace and we are what we write, we have written our needs and what we fathom inside of us, but can peace come from a writer at war?

Oh sure, in anger it is impossible to think and if there is one thing known, my life would put most over the brink, long gone, but then another's life to me which seems tame might drive me absolutely, completely insane. Nevertheless, it is in anger that I have fought the best. And certainly I am in a fight with the flashing, blinking, cursor that waits silently, clicking on and off, for me to type the next word or finish a sentence. And as angry as I am that it does take so long to put the next word into each flash of the cursor. It makes me laugh when it flashes because it is funny. It is funny when it flashes waiting for the next character and it will flash and continue to flash even if a writer falls over dead.

So, in a round about way, the whole purpose of the flash of the cursor is to make the writer laugh and maybe the reader too?

Yes, jaded, faded, scarred, and scared while we look in the mirror and reflect what is there, whether tragedy, sarcasm, noire of errors, murders, how to's, who gives a care? It is just a tick of time of comedy, a pantomime, a joke on the road of life. Remember the light not trouble and strife. Observes one it's a metronome and to its beat the fingers type home.

So it births a great song, a poem really wild, a member of the cast recognizably vile, and a joke oh most ever so crass. So why does it blink when I've left the house, lie outside on the grass?

Now that is just a whole 'nuther question. Off to watch stars through the window of the night while I'm restin'. Yes, it's funny, that's what it must be to take not take the world at all seriously. Good night.
