Working in a restaurant doesn't mean you get free food.

Most people have an image of restaurant workers standing around eating whatever they want.

Free food in the back, snacking on french fries, eating fresh bread etc......

In my experience that's not the case at all.

We do have a program at work where you can get a discount on the food that we offer but it certainly isn't free.

In fact, even if you want to drink a cup of coffee or have a soda you have to be a member of that program otherwise you just get water.

You cannot even so much as eat a piece of bread without being part of that program which is pretty expensive.

I was on that program once several years ago but as our prices have gradually gone up it doesn't make sense to be on it for me anymore.

That doesn't mean that we don't get to eat food that we bring in.

Sometimes the cooks will make something in the back and we can share it.

Today a friend of mine brought in a couple of burgers he picked up from the convenience store this morning.

I ate one of those and it was pretty good.

I brought in some cookies and shared them around as well.

Someone brought in some donuts yesterday and then the day before someone brought a big tub of tacos.

So in essence we do get to eat a free food but it isn't like people think.

We aren't eating the restaurant's food.

Businesses like restaurants aren't keen to give anything away at all.

They view a single Coca Cola in a plastic container as being worth the amount that they sell it for.

We sell a glass of Coca Cola for $3 so you can't reasonably expect to be able to take one from work.

That's the attitude that the restaurant business has.
