Movie Review - Daybreakers. Finally..... a vampire movie that doesn't suck.

The other day I was strolling through various streaming sites looking for a good horror movie to watch.

I love horror movies.

Any kind of horror is okay from shock horror, to action horror, to comedy horror, to monster horror.

I came across a movie I hadn't heard of before.

It was a movie about vampires and it starred several big name actors.

"What on Earth? "

"Where did this movie come from?" I thought to myself.

So without further ado let's ahead go and check out.....

In 2019 the most precious natural resource........ is us.

The first thing that caught my eye about this movie was the fact that it started Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe.

Ethan Hawke is fantastic actor. Most people I've talked to think so...... but at the same time they can only think of a couple of movies that they've ever seen him in.

My favorite Ethan Hawke movie is Gattaca. I'm always excited whenever I see a new movie that he is cast in.

Now Willem Dafoe actually played a vampire in the movie Shadow of the Vampire.

He's been in a bunch of good movies recently and his entire career is basically one great movie after the other.

So how could a movie about vampires that stars two great actors go completely under my radar?

You might be thinking it sucked and that's why it went unnoticed....... but the truth is this movie is completely fantastic.

First of all, Daybreakers is a smart movie. It's basically the exact opposite of the recent movie called Daylight's End.

Daylight's End was all action and no substance but Daybreakers is mostly substance though it does have a fair bit of action in it as well.

Imagine a world where through some sort of virus the entire population of the world becomes vampires with the exception of a very small populace of true blood humans.

These humans are then hunted and treated as cattle. The only reason that we keep them around is for their blood and they are treated as sub citizens.

Ethan Hawke plays a scientist who works for an evil corporation run by Sam Neill. His current job is to try to come up with a viable blood substitute because there isn't enough human blood to go around.

However, he is approached by some actual humans because they've created a way to actually turn vampires back into humans.

The question is....... would any immortal vampire actually want to be human again?

Those are the kinds of questions that make me want to watch movies.

Daybreakers is incredible from start to end and I cannot recommend it enough.

If you're looking for something deep and thoughtful to watch I suggest giving Daybreakers a chance.
