A Jeezzle Review: Tron

in #life7 years ago

In 2010 a movie called Tron legacy came out based on a much older classic movie.

In 1982 the original movie Tron came out and it was a masterpiece of its time.

Starring Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner Tron was ahead of it's time in every conceivable way.

When I was a kid Tron was everywhere.

I remember seeing the Tron arcade game in all the arcades.

Of course that was over 30 years ago and back then you couldn't walk down the street without running into a bunch of arcades.

Now arcades are much rarer because people have phones that you can just play games on.

That makes Tron more of a curiosity than anything else.

Nowadays people are so versed in computer terminology that most people could watch Tron and understand what is going on but when it came out in 1982 nobody really had any idea.

Who's in it?

Jeff Bridges
Bruce Boxleitner
David Warner
Cindy Morgan
Barnard Hughes
Dan Shor
Peter Jurasik

....to name a few.

Jeff Bridges needs no introduction because he is very well known and he did an excellent job playing in the sequel Tron Legacy as well.

Most people probably don't know who Bruce Boxleitner is but if you're a Sci Fi fan then you surely must.

Bruce Boxleitner played the captain from Babylon 5.

He's not the only person from Babylon 5 in this movie either so that makes it kind of fun for Sci Fi fans.

What's the plot?

Tron has a really cool plot but it was kind of ahead of it's time when it came out in 1982 and a lot of people didn't really understand what was going on.

You have to understand first of all that in 1982 most people did not own computers.

In fact the Commodore 64 didn't even come out until a couple of months after this movie and it could hardly be called a computer if you compare it to what we have today.

It was more of a gaming system with a big floppy port in it.

Having said that the plot is essentially that there is a master program called Master Control Program and it is sort of controlling everything because it's developed an artificial intelligence that is much smarter than humans.

The users are the people that exist in the real world and the programs are their counterparts that exist in the computer world.

One of the users figures out how to create a program called Tron that is supposed to mess with the Master Control Program and take away some of its power but the Master Control Program has other plans.

He ends up sending one of the users into the computer program somehow via some sort of a beam and then they have to play several electronic games.

These games are real life or death games in the computer world.

Ultimately the goal is to defeat the Master Control Program.

This movie is a ton of fun with special effects that look good even today.

It is slightly convoluted even though it also straightforward just because so many special effects are going on at once and they aren't quite up to today's standards even though they still look good.

Tron is an older movie but it's still definitely really good and I highly recommend that you watch it...... especially if you are thinking about watching Tron Legacy.

Tron holds up after all this time.

It's still a masterpiece.
