A Jeezzle Review: The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I love Kung Fu movies.

I especially love watching them with terrible English dubs.

I don't know what it is about them that is so awesome but if I see a Shaw Brothers movie, I watch it.

Amazon Prime has a great selection of Kung Fu movies and most of them have a terrible English dub which is amazing.

One of the best movies on there is called The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.

Who's in it?

Chia-Hui Liu is awesome in this movie.

His martial arts skills are truly amazing.

He's been in a bunch of martial arts movies and also he was in Kill Bill.

The other members of the cast have also been in a lot of Kung Fu movies and you may have seen them if you're a fan of the genre..... however I couldn't really give a rundown of them all.

Needless to say there's some really great Kung Fu Fighting going down among pretty much all of the cast members.

What's it about?

On the surface, this is a politically charged movie involving two separate sides fighting and killing each other.

I believe the two sides are called the Chings and the Manchus.

However, this movie is not really about two different sides fighting but rather it is about a very long and interesting training sequence.

The movie, essentially, is the training sequence.

A boy is thrown out of his village and he tries to escape with some other people but then he gets hurt and winds up at the Shaolin Temple.

Once at the temple he is healed and then makes his case to become a monk.

Eventually he is accepted as a monk and he has to go through each individual chamber and learn how to fight using those techniques.

He is a natural and is put in charge of any chamber he wants so he chooses the 36th chamber which doesn't even exist yet because they're only 35 up to that point.

After that he leaves and goes to fight.

Is it good?

If you like Kung Fu movies then you should think that this movie is great.

The action is amazing and the unique idea of an extended training sequence is really cool especially because the entire sequence is just incredible.

The dub for this is also really good and doesn't make you wince at any point although it still has the parts make you laugh a little.

It's just terrible enough to be great.

Having said that, I think the actual political aspects involving the Chings and the Manchus are not that good, just my personal opinion.

Fortunately the movie doesn't really focus on that part very much and instead focus is almost completely on the training sequences at The Shaolin Temple and those are awesome.

If you like Kung Fu movies you will love the 36th chamber of Shaolin.
