A Jeezzle Movie Review: Smokey and the Bandit.

in #life7 years ago

As most of you know by now I really love old movies. Being that it came out in 1977 Smokey and the Bandit definitely belongs in this category.

Smokey and the Bandit is a good old romp roaring ride through the countryside.

It's got fun. It's got adventure.

It's got it's own very popular theme song called Eastbound and Down which is actually sung by Jerry Reed who is one of the main actors.

Who's in it?

Smokey and the Bandit is full of great actors from the seventies.

Burt Reynolds
Sally Field
Jackie Gleason
Jerry Reed

Just to name a few.

Burt Reynolds was one of the most popular actors at the time and he was actually asked to play the rule of James Bond after George Lazenby quit but he decided it should go to a British actor.

Sally Field had mostly played goody two shoe rolls like Gidget and The Flying Nun so it was really nice to see her play a more wild roll.

When she was younger Sally Field was actually quite gorgeous and she was actually on the cover of Playboy at one point.

Jackie Gleason starred in The Honeymooners. His comedic genius really shines in this movie as well.

Jerry Reed is a country music singer who barely missed out on singing the theme to Dukes of Hazzard. He kind of looks a bit like John Schneider so you might even get him confused with one of the good old boys but he isn't one.

He's a great actor.

What's it about?

In today's world of overacting and complicated plots it's refreshing to see a movie that doesn't try to be more than it is.

Smokey and the Bandit is about a guy named the Bandit, who with his good friend, try to deliver 400 cases of Coors Light from Texas to Georgia.

Smokey drives the car that's out in front, which is a Trans Am, while Cledus drives the 18 wheeler.

Along the way they run into Sally Fields who plays a sort of damsel in distress who is escaping from her own wedding.

She is supposed to be marrying the sheriff's son so the sheriff is obviously upset.

This sheriff is played by Jackie Gleason and it a hilarious role that pretty much makes the movie.

Sheriff Buford T. Justice.

All of them together end up driving all over the place and getting to into more misadventures than you could possibly imagine.

It is pure fun and a delight to watch.

If you haven't seen Smokey and the Bandit why not give it a try? It's as good today as it was in 1977.

nice post

It's my husband's favorite movie. Jerry Reed is one of my favorite singers from that era of music.

Wow, his very favorite movie? That's pretty cool. Jerry Reed is a great singer and a good actor. I absolutely love the 70s.

Oh yeah. They had it in theaters for it's 40th anniversary and we went. My husband loved it. They made a couple of sequels. The third is ridiculous but Jackie Gleason has some hilarious lines. I'd recommend those for a chuckle.

The first one and the second one are both on Showtime....... that's where I saw the first one although I saw it many times as a kid. I was thinking about watching the second one but it has some pretty bad reviews. You know Burt Reynolds and Sally Field were actually together for about 5 years and I guess I must have broken up sometime around the second one.
