“When the going gets tough, put one foot in front of the other and just keep going. Don’t give up.” ― Roy T. Bennett,

Staying motivated on permanent basis can be challenging - especially when your time is spent doing a million and one activities... work, kids, family, dinner, lunches, meetings, sports practices, bath time, homework... It can often leave one feeling somewhat depleted (to say the least)... Motivation shoves you through "the tough times" to a point of success - so I thought I would share some motivational "tips" which I use on a regular basis, to stay "on target".

RE-FOCUS

When your goals are no longer in focus, then neither are you. You simply cannot attain what you cannot see clearly. Take a moment or three to remind yourself of where you want to be and why you started the journey in the first place. It is good to regain a bit of perspective.

GO FOR A WALK!!

Yip, you read right! Fresh air is an amazing healer and walking is an excellent way of "re-booting" - in fact, short of walking, even if you are able to go to a nice green area where you can simply take your shoes off and feel the grass under your feet... then do that too!

START COMMUNICATING!

Sometimes, when things around us become a little overwhelming, it is easy to turn inward... but this actually makes the situation worse. Despite how difficult - it really does help to "off load" every now and then - and that is what the people close to us are there for. They are an integral part of our support structure... and vice versa. Don't be afraid to make use of that. You will literally FEEL the weight lifting off your shoulders, just by speaking about "whatever it is". Verbal expression can also be looked at as a bit of a "brainstorming session" - sometimes other people see things / ideas / alternatives that we don't.

MIX IT UP!!!

There is a lot of truth in the old expression "Change is as good as a holiday" - so if you are feeling depleted at work for instance - do something simple, perhaps re-organise your desk. Buy a new pot plant for your windowsill or desk, get a goldfish - it really doesn't matter... just refresh up the space, re-arrange it, sort it out and give the space you frequent a new lease on life. Trust me on this one.

TRUST YOUR GUT!!!
Intuition - more often than not - will surprise you, if you give it half the chance! If you are in a head space of not knowing what to do... then the timing on the matter is probably not right, which is why the puzzle pieces are not landing where you want / need them to. Trust that... the time to "action something" will come and when it does, you will not hesitate, you will KNOW it is the right time... so be patient and trust in the process.

STRICTLY POSITIVE SELF-TALK PLEASE!

Negative self-talk is without question the biggest no no, yet the one thing people do most! PLEASE... STOP IT! You need to learn to be your own cheerleader! When you catch yourself allowing negative self-talk, don't ignore it, as this often makes it get even louder. Just acknowledge it... "speak to it nicely" and then dismiss it.

REWARD YOUR MILESTONES SMALL AND LARGE

Long term and short term goals have many milestones along the way... so don't forget to acknowledge your achievements along the way. Even if it is simply by spoiling yourself to a good champagne in the bath whilst you take a moment to think about what you have achieved thus far - or maybe you take your family/friends out for dinner to share the celebration. Acknowledging small victories is a motivation in itself.

GET UP AND DRESS UP - LIKE A BOSS!!

Oh yes! There is much to be said for getting up in the morning and putting on an outfit which makes you look and feel like a million bucks! No, really - even if you don't feel like it - just do it! If you can - Do it most days of the week and then take one day do it "lounge lizard style" - this in itself is rewarding!... This is such a fantastic confidence booster - and when you feel confident... the feeling of motivation comes naturally.

DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS

It is none of your business what other peoples goals and achievements are, it honestly has absolutely NOTHING to do with you and your goals! So, keep your mind focused on YOU and where you are going!... if you want to compare yourself to anybody, then compare yourself to the person you see in the mirror :)

NO MORE COMFORT ZONES!!!

It is way too easy to procrastinate when enjoying the spoils of a comfort zone. ... it will literally suck the life out of you and your goals. If you don't feel in the right frame of mind to be productive towards your goal then go and do something else until you shake that feeling. Something that you enjoy. Play with your kids, read a book, go for a run, go window shopping... whatever makes your heart happy!

Most importantly... remember and TRUST, that everything will unfold PRECISELY the way it should!

Until next time...

Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx

Comfort zone is a great place, but nothing is growing there. That's why your advice to refocus, walk by nature at least briefly, communicate, organize the space '- show that you are writing this from your personal experience.
