Addicted to something? Read this!
IT'S YOUR ENVIORNMENT!
I stumbled across a video recently and would love to share what I learned because one way or another we're all addicted to something. It broke down how it works and why. With actual studies over the years. You'll be surprised at the outcome, I thought it was simple. You do something 21 days in a row and your brain is simply hooked already. Well, that's not the case!
So here is what happened. As you know the main addictions are drugs and alcohol. When you're in the hospital a lot of medicine has some diamorphine, which is way stronger than heroin. So according to the main study, most of those should be addicted! But once you leave you're not addicted, so what makes you addicted to anything?
The study was done with rats, they were addicted to water that had drugs in them. All that was in the cage was healthy water and drugged water. Simple, the rat had nothing else to do but get high lol. So eventually it overdosed and died :(. Bruce Alexander let the study by putting many rats with both choices of water but with everything possible so rats can enjoy themselves. With both water choices the water they chose to drink was pure and ignored the drugged water.
Now, lets put this in perspective with humans. The Vietnam war, 20% of the troops used heroin. After the war 95% stopped now going to Professor Alexanders theory, this makes complete sense. In war, they have to kill or be killed at any moment so heroin was a good way to past time. But when you go back home it's like going into the utopia for the rats. You have time to spend with family and friends so you make better choices. Essentially we're caged in something and we can get out easily, think of addiction in a different perspective.
