#Gratefulvibes - Growing old with Love...

Went over my album today and I came across this beautiful photo which I must have shot some two years ago, taken at a shopping mall in Marikina, one Sunday morning after our church service. And looking at it closely made me feel an overflow of gratitude for being blessed with two wonderful people - my parents. Mom turns 83 this month, February 19 to be exact and my dad will be 82 years old come March 8. Yes they're old but still full of love and vitality. And what more? They will be celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 19. Hard to believe but yes, long and loving relationships still do exist. They started out as a young couple with 19 and 20 years of age. They claimed that life back then was not an easy journey with so many children to raise and unending expenses to cope up with. Hard work paved their way out of life's difficulties.

So what kept them together all this time? Perhaps you can say that it's true love, laughter, sometimes petty quarrels (believe me, there's no such thing as perfect relationship), and not to mention their by-products of 7 children, 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Yes we are one big happy family. Can you imagine how chaotic the house becomes every time we are gathered together for a reunion? But it was always fun filled memories.

With no intention to boast, may i say that my parents did a very good job in raising all seven children who are now professionals and successful in our own chosen field. I guess the strictness of my mom who is by nature a disciplinarian, has truly paid off. When we were younger, there were always house rules to follow like a study period everyday, sometimes with oral reading too (low grades was a no no and unacceptable), clean notebooks, good handwriting and curfew hours were strictly observed. And we were also trained to value hard work. Discipline is the word, and I think that it has worked well for us.
