It goes without saying that getting addicted to something is easy but the road to recovery tends to be very long and arduous. And there is always the danger of relapsing anytime during the recovery process. What’s more, the way people treat you while you are in rehab can also be a make-or-break thing.

Getting back to normal after attaining sobriety can also be a big challenge. You sacrifice so much to get back on your feet again, having to give up so many things for the sake of rebuilding your life and starting again from a scratch. Restructuring your whole coping mechanism, walking away from the bad company in your social circle, and redefining your whole approach to life can take a lot out of you. But the reward at the end can also be well worth the struggle.

Once you have attained that much craved sobriety, making a fresh start can be another major challenge. One such challenge is getting romantically involved with someone again, finding new love to balance the loneliness that you surely must have gone through during the long and hard recovery process.

A healthy romantic relationship can give you a new lease of life while also ensuring that the dangers of relapsing after attaining sobriety are kept at bay. Healthy and fulfilling relationships can help even during the recovery process. However, finding a suitable partner in this regard can be difficult and daunting. In short, finding love again after recovering from an addiction is nowhere near as simple as it may sound. And no one will tell you what it feels like to love again after seeing off an addiction. You will just have to go through the whole thing and see for yourself. While it may not be the easiest thing in the world, it is certainly guaranteed to be worth it.

Make use of these tips to find true love and meaning in a relationship after addiction.

Approach it Like a Complete Stranger

There are obvious risks in putting yourself out there and letting your guard down in front of strangers. Laying out your personal life story in front of people you hardly know about takes a special kind of courage and positivity. Particularly in this era of Internet and social media, the issue of safety is paramount. Not just for someone like you who has just recovered from addiction, the risks of such dating practices are the same for everyone. But, like other ways of meeting new people, this is a roll of the dice and a leap of faith. Think strategically about the whole affair. Carefully evaluate a new individual and ask yourself whether you would be comfortable introducing him/her to your family and friends.

There really is no way to know if someone is going to be the right or wrong person for you. It is mostly trial and error. So, take a slightly different approach to the whole thing and stop being too hard on yourself. You have already come a long way with your rehab after addiction. The right romantic partner will also walk into your life when the time is right.

Avoid Falling for the Love Cocktail Trap

As a newly sober individual, it is important that you should be able to ease into a new relationship rather than rushing into it. It is advisable to resist the temptation of getting intimate with someone on the first few dates. This is because the emotional ups and downs of a relationship can often cause relapse. So, take your time whenever you meet someone new and get to know them better first

Evaluate Your Worthiness to Be Able to Begin and Sustain a Relationship

While you are appraising the other person and deciding whether or not there is some compatibility there, take a moment to consider your own potential and ability to sustain a full-on romantic relationship. Be honest with yourself as well as the other person by clearly defining each other’s goals and expectations from the relationship.

In essence, how you feel trying to pursue a relationship after recovery from addiction depends on the kind of person you are. Sure, it can be daunting and even seem hopeless at times. But we are confident that the right person will come along for you at the right moment. Just be a little more patient. Lots of love is headed is your way without a shadow of a doubt.

When we fall in love and love another we allow the beautiful energy of source to go through us, and we finally feel, in a natural way what we have tried to achieve with addiction. This is the power of love!

It is very important though to remember that relationships have ups and downs. And those downs are more difficult for the former addicts cause with depression they look for the easy way out. MUST remain strong and get help if needed. 💙

it's certainly a hard process, the flashes of the past relationship won't stop coming in which is definitely going to affect the one you are about restarting, one way or the other. We just have to move past it.
