The Improv Shop welcomes San Cliche' and Twosies Show

Bonjour, Willkommen, Bienvenido

Welcome to San Cliche'!

San Cliche is a show within a show that has played in Chicago, Los Angeles, and this December in St Louis at The Improv Shop.  I asked the improv community in STL if they'd be interested in a night of Two Person Teams.  After all, the two person scene is part of the backbone to any longform improv show. Often a show can get carried away in 'walk ons', 'tags', and 'runs', just as a couple of players begin to discover a rich relationship between two characters.  There are some great two person teams in every long form town: Dummy in Los Angeles and TJ & Dave are just a couple of examples.  After putting out the call on the Saint Louis Improv Facebook Group,  plenty of players stepped up and said they'd like to play in a night devoted to duos.

The Shows were Fridays December 23rd & 30th just before midnight.  Each night featured 7-8 teams, each playing for approximately 8 minutes showcasing different playing styles within the craft.  The team 'IMPROPERA' sang a capella love songs to each other.  'GHOSTS' replayed the same scene three different ways Rashomon style.  And 'B & E' shared each other's characters, shape shifting from one to the next. It was a fast paced night of unhurried patient improv capped off by the current incarnation of 'San Cliche', an ensemble show of heightened jubilee.  It was an honor to host such a talented round of duos at such a solid venue for live improv comedy. And I am thankful they allowed the San Cliche banner to fly once more in my home town.

I am an improviser of 16 years now as a player and a teacher.  I'm always happy to invite people to shows because it's an opportunity to witness something truly one of a kind. An improv show happens once, it's stories and characters never to be seen again.  The only thing that remains is that feeling by audience and players that something human was discovered and appreciated just long enough to make someone laugh.  Two by two, we made each other laugh as time turned the corner on another year.  Time will tell if the Steemit community is interested in seeing and reading more about the Cliche's, The Reckoning, and Improv in general.  Whether you've improvised or not, if you are interested in more, feel free to let me know your thoughts on improv in the comments below. Who knows, we may even have our own Steemit improv team to play at a Steemfest someday.
