Yesterday, I drove into town to help a friend finish packing up his house and moving stuff. He and his wife have been renting, but now it was time to move elsewhere, and chaos ensued. I have moved more than a few times myself, and it has never been as disorganized and chaotic as this. To be fair, the lady of the house has an infant to manage, but the surplus of youthful helpers were more interested in smartphone shenanigans than in getting stuff done. Of course, midnight last night was their deadline, so stuff had to get done anyway.

My pre-existing back issues limited my ability to assist, but I carried backrests of a sectional sofa up a slippery slope and then a long flight of stairs. I hauled bags of trash and bags of miscellaneous garments. I toted totes. I also wrapped some paintings and picture frames in blankets for safer transportation. Today, my back is reminding me that I did a bit too much of all that.

If you have a move in mind, try to plan the logistics of what goes where, what order it will be loaded and unloaded, and how to make efficient use of your storage or transportation space. Ask at local grocery and liquor stores for discarded boxes. The latter especially are small enough to easily be handled, and sturdy enough for books or glass. Label boxes wit their contents and their destination so things are more likely to get to wherever they need to be.

That's probably the extent of my posting for today. I am off to vegetate in front of a TV screen while I recover.

I feel you, man. I've moved, on average, every two years of my life. That's why I finally embraced minimalism and got rid of most of my books. I thought I'd miss them but I don't. I realized, when there's something I really need to read again, that's what libraries are for.

@jacobtothe I hope I never have to move, ever again. I have helped plenty of people move, which I do not mind but moving my things is a never ending job. I understand what you mean about over doing with a bad back. KNOW YOUR LIMITS. I hope it is feeling better by now.

A Guinness and rest has set me along the road to recovery. I made sure I didn't do anything too strenuous, but the constant fight for footing on snow and ice combined with repetitive lifting and bending wasn't good.

while still in the air force, when we were posted the Government sent in contracted movers, they moved everything, you left the house at 7am, and returned to do the final clean up usually about 1 pm.
One wife left them some scones, butter, jam, tea milk etc for their morning tea, when they returned, two years later, from Singapore, the unpacking crew found the morning tea things still there, even though the milk was now solid.
Since then, when possible, we have done it car full by car full over the preceding days, just leaving the beds, fridge etc for moving day.
Next move will start with a skip bin to put all the "will come in handy, some day" things into,

Because tumblr has stopped allowing nsfw material leaving this as the closest thing ive found to it. As a place to share blogs can handle it but there is less interaction and sharing back and forth.

This isn't Tumblr, so expect a different community reaction to how you post here. Offer proper attribution to the original content creator with a direct link. If you decline payout on copy/pasted material, you get exactly the same rewards you would on Tumbler anyway, so why are you so opposed to doing so? Following these basic rules ends the flags.

If you post original content, by all means, accept a payout. I would rather be encouraging that than flagging porn spam and plagiarism.
