Realizing and appreciating life in its basic form.

Breathe

Needless to say you're breathing if you're reading this post already but how often do you realize it? It goes almost unnoticed everyday despite it being a very vital and recursive action that your body performs to keep you alive. Unless you just paid attention, notice that you're still breathing while reading this post. It's something you haven't stopped doing since your birth.

Appreciate it.

Isolate yourself for sometime. Cut the noise around and pause for a while. Close your eyes and notice the flow of air through your nose making the "swoosh" sound; expanding and contracting your chest. Relax, breathe and just be. Appreciate that this unnoticed action is what keeps you alive. Realize life in its most basic and real form. Appreciate it.
Many of us don't know or don't have a good understanding of how well our body is engineered. Every single part of our body, down to the molecular level of amino acids, is engineered and organized the way it is, to put life in us. Understanding the science behind life might be really complex but it's a no-brainer that breathing is essential for us to stay alive. It can't really get simpler than that. Yet, we barely spend a few seconds to notice it happening in real-time.

"But I don't remember signing up for a meditation class and I don't need a reminder to breathe. I do that anyway."

It is not a reminder to breathe but a reminder to notice when you breathe. You might not be doing that quite often. Also, it's not to be misunderstood with noticing every breath you take throughout your life. We are not designed to do that. Just a few minutes in a day, whenever you feel you can, should suffice. The essence is to be closer to life, to feel alive, to experience what it actually means to be a living being. You can also try to notice others breathing, which in some cases might turn out to be a little creepy. You could notice your pets breathing or your babies while they're asleep. You will know that breathing is what communicates their aliveness to you when they're asleep and stops you from freaking out. You know they're alive. It's a simple task that we see around us often but rarely take notice of it or appreciate it.

Notice your breath, it is breathtaking.

It helps us stay happy by instantly reducing our stress. It makes us realize that even when we don't know what reactions occur inside our body, we were engineered to be what we are today. We have a lot of work going on in our body at cellular level to keep us alive. Our body is takes care of us. It makes us feel connected to the universe because we all are governed by the laws of the universe or the laws of our current understanding of physics. We suddenly realize we are a part of something more, something bigger perhaps. And it helps us to realize that at the end, it is what matters the most and breathing is perhaps a gift to us. It helps us in clearing out cloudy thoughts that we clutter our minds with. It inculcates in us, a habit of appreciation and gratification. Try it out on your own to experience it first hand.
