Irrational Fear

Fear.....

The word fear has so much depth and darkness behind it. It helps us survive, or it used to. Nowadays it just paralyzes our will and as a result we sacrifice living a wholesome life. We could talk about fear all day long, but let's focus on "Irrational Fears."

Have you ever decided to not do something you wanted to, because you felt some sort of unease? Usually this is a symptom of irrational fear; a belief that there is danger present when there isn't. It's as if our natural survival mechanisms have hi-jacked our behaviors. Obviously this is not okay as it paralyzes us and as a result makes our lives less than optimal. So how may we remedy this dis-ease?

What I've come to realize is fear happens because we are unsure of our ability to deal with situations. The answer is clear: Knowledge is power and furthermore, experience is the catalyst. If we challenge our fears head on, then the anxiety vanishes for the next time and its clear why. Nobody likes the "unknown" so if we make it "known" then there is nothing to fear or feel anxious about.

If we challenge ourselves and push past our limits, (for example, exercise and beat personal goals) then we will know our capabilities. Since we know what we are capable of, it's not fear that sets in; it's confidence. But even confidence doesn't stand a chance against our "programming."

So, if we are constantly indulging in negative news-feed, then we are programming ourselves to default to fear. After all, television is called programming for good reason. Our brains are like super computers and we are the software engineers. We must be diligent about what we are "consuming." (Movies, music, books etc).

The good news is we all have a choice and we can "CTRL-ALT-DELETE" these irrational fears. Let's empower one another and rise up above fear itself!
