Moral Machine - test your morals and help with teaching the machines about them

in #life8 years ago

Moral Machine - a platform for public participation in and discussion of the human perspective on machine-made moral decisions. Offer your perspective on which moral dilemma outcomes you find acceptable for a self-driving car, create your own dilemma scenarios, and discuss them with others. That is the Moral Machine in a nutshell. It can be found at http://moralmachine.mit.edu/.

Moral Machine is a project done by researchers at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to determine the killing conditions for self-driving cars. Self-driving cars are already cruising the streets, but before they can become widespread, carmakers must solve an impossible ethical dilemma of algorithmic morality. Hence the Moral Machine project was founded to aid scientists in determining the optimal social acceptance conditions.

From the free market perspective, do you think we will see a number of self-driving car options to choose from, with different risk and policy profiles? Do you think it would be acceptable to program your own car to save your own life at any cost? How society will judge such an individual? Do you think politicians will kill self-driving car concept given the inevitability of errors and associated deaths? I invite you to a discussion.

Go to the Moral Machine website and complete the quiz to get your own morality profile.

You can read more about why the self-driving cars must be programmed to kill too at: https://www.technologyreview.com/s/542626/why-self-driving-cars-must-be-programmed-to-kill/

That is so freaky, each case I ask "why there is no option "stop the car" ? But ok, these are the border scenarios , I suppose. This quiz is really nice (or rather: interesting, I should say), thanks for that!

What is more frustrating it is rather the utilitarian morality test.

Yes, these are borderline scenarios where cars cannot be stopped before the tragedy occurs. Did you get your morality profile? What are your biases?

Yup, I can post my results here.

Woooho! Intelligent cars are not going to be so intelligent if they ask people how they should behave instead of letting AI deciding what to do on it's own. So silly they are these scientists!

Scientists reach out to the populace to deem what would be acceptable. They don't want to appear authoritarian, or so it seems.
