Custom model for 3D printing : Steemdya Scarface - when slicing goes wrong...

Well... Looks like i got myself a scarface version of Steemdya, i don't really understand why it's happening, tho i changed the shell thickness from 0.4 to 0.6, repieter host with cura engine still slice the character's face with missing layers...

Even tho i couldn't see this in the slicer too, there are some of the hand elements missing, especially two of the nuts had the same "missing" layers issues.

It did print it well even tho these layers are missing, i an see some construction / scafolding blocks that hav been printed inside, these layers missing aren't a printer malfunction, but a slicing problem from the program. I will now show you how the model looks in repieter host before slicing, in case if anyone can give his opinion or advice about this :

And the slicing problems even tho the model appears really nice and complete in repieter, i saved the 3Ds max file to a STL file before importing it into repieter host, and even tho using a lot of shell thickness it still gives this result :

At first i thought it was maybe, a displaying bug, or just an issue with the program itself...

I also have some layers missing under the hammer at some places :

His skirt / leather belt around his pants aren't complete either, half of it is missing.

It's weird, i tried to export and re import the model, and it allways looks fine and all before slicing, it's allways his face getting layers missing... any clue what is going on here ? I have not enough experience with 3D printer applications, and i tried whet i thought was the problem (outer shell thickness) but maybe it's another problem ? Because i don't know why most of the model would be displaying okay and nice after a slice, but these random parts, even tho it's areas that are part of a complete and closed 3D model / shell and in the continuity of the polygons of the face that are very closed up and quad compliant / have good loops in term of edges and good practice in polygon making.

Yeah, sorry if it sounds like some kind of call for help here ^^

I don't know about these 3D printers, but would it be better to print several parts, like only the head, then the arms, etc, and assemble them?

yeah i was wondering the same thing, i think the arms , legs etc, came out well, but i might want to print the whole head again and cut his actual head off ! i might make a special beheading video of steemdya so the medias will crucify me xD (joking of course) Thanks for your input, that's one way of getting rid of this problem, i was so wrapping my head around just printing him in one piece, but i might just do what you said, why didn't i thought about that earlier, i will slice only his head with part of the neck going deeper in the body, so i can drill a hole with an electric drill and the appropriate diameter for it, put glue, and voila !

Nice help ^^

people are just too sensitive. i say do it man. behead the guy and give him a new head. 😃

I am glad that there is a solution there, printing in one go with all these details seems like very difficult. Let us know how the beheading went!

Great job you do with that-printer 3D

i'm sure you'll figure it out! looks like it's gonna look awesome without the glitches 👍
