Do you value your time?

On time

“It is not that we have so little time but that we lose so much. ... The life we receive is not short but we make it so; we are not ill provided but use what we have wastefully.” - Senecca

Video games. They are addicting. I played them. For hours on end. 8 hours. 10 hours. 12 hours a day? Probably happened. Did I enjoy that time? Most of the times I did. Other times it was just a way to overcome boredom. Waste some time. Not think about the issues. The troubles. The important stuff.

If you enjoy the time spent, it is not time wasted.

We can argue about that. Sure it was awesome at times. Playing online with new friends. Engaging in competitive matches and winning. The thrill to have people watch you and then win the round. Not a bad feeling. Or experience.

But looking back at it what did I really gain? I didn’t play with real life friends most of the time, so it didn’t strengthen those relationships. Online friends are not your real friends. Is my hand-eye coordination better? Who knows. I guess we won’t be able to analyze all the consequences.

One thing is for sure though. The time could have been spent better.

Do I regret it? Not at all.

I’m just making sure to value my time more from here on out.

What I want to get at with this post.

It doesn’t matter if you play video games or watch TV. Check your e-mails or the news. Mindlessly browse through your social media feeds. Hang out with toxic people getting drunk.

Every second that you waste is a second you won’t get back. We only have this one life after all. There was never anybody that succeeded in holding on to a moment.

Now do I want everybody to work all the time? Of course not.

Do you know the saying “Time is money”? What a pitiful statement about time.

There are even calculators to find out how much your time is worth… Pathetic. Sad.

You might even realize that your time is too important to go after money. Or you might go after money so you can have more free time. Whatever.

Time is much more. Thinking of it in materialistic terms doesn’t do it justice. Time should be spent wisely. I just hope I can encourage some people to think about how they spend their time.

You can never make more time.

Why value your time?

Do you have a dream in your life? Goals? Something you want to achieve? A purpose even.

How much time do you spend working on those things? On a daily basis. Consistency is key to anything.

How often did you postpone something? Put if off until tomorrow. Just procrastinate a little longer.

See, when you look back on your life you won’t remember the times you laid on a couch and watched TV. Or whatever.

Probably won’t remember every single hour that you put into your dream either. That’s not the point.

The point is that working on your dream pays off later in life. Watching TV, not so much.

If you want to achieve your goals, which I’m sure you do, there is no time to waste. The more time you can apply towards achieving your dreams, the better.

Don’ fool yourself into believing that there is unlimited time and you can just start tomorrow. There is not. Many people have learned this the hard way.

What happens when you value your time?

First you would have to value yourself. If you don’t appreciate what you were given this won’t work. You shouldn’t settle for less.

So, decide that you are worth more than how you currently define your life. Afterwards you should value time and the following will happen.

You don’t allow other people to waste your precious hours. Huge efficiency boost. Remember all those meetings no one needs? Some private “meetings” are no different. Talking about mundane stuff profiting no one involved.

Confidence booster. Why would that be? Well you are now on a mission. A mission you absolutely have to achieve. There is no if. You realize that in the end it doesn’t matter what anybody thought. You just do you. Give it all you got.

Selective in daily habits and in what you consume. Do you want to turn on the TV or rather pick up a book? Your choice. Time is limited.

There are so many more points. The list could go on. And on and on.

Final words

Have your fun. Life is made up of all those little moments. The stupid stuff you do with friends. The hours used to just stare at the sky.

But please, don’t let inactivity and procrastination make you waste time, waiting for a better tomorrow, where you are finally ready. It will never come.

“Life is long, if you know how to use it.”

P.S. It is also good to stop once in a while. In a world where everything moves so fast and where we are constantly in a rush. Take your time. Just don't let it go to waste. Spend it in a mindful manner is probably all I wanted to say with this post.

One last quote

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Stay awesome and don’t fail to create

Great post. Same kind of topics and style of article I am looking to write and share. You can see my initial posts on my blog.
If you have a full-time job, ask yourself what do you do between the time you get off work to the time you go to bed. These are the hours that most likely will define your future. Do you watch TV or read a book that can teach you a thing or two? (Jack Ma of Alibaba group - explains this pretty well).

Keep it up!

Bitte! In case you don't know German, that means You're Welcome!

I value my time. I went to the beach all day today, but I still have time to visit Steemit! Can't do everything so just do what makes you happy...

Time -is- valuable. If only we didn't have to give so much of it away to pay for the salaries of the people in government.

that´s a really cool picture
