Flowers of Costa Rica... A garden of Eden
I have a small but growing collection of plants and flowers, mostly collected from the jungle around my home. The growing conditions here are quiet marvellous - very near to a heated propagator at 30c and 90% relative humidity! I have also been pleasantly surprised by how few pests the plants have, I can only assume this is due to the incredible bio-diversity of wild life that preys upon such creatures. Where I used to live in souther Spain we had huge amounts of plants pests, but I think they were running to our organic property to get away from poisoning by the farmers with their terrible insecticides. Here the balance of life is much more natural with no intensive farming at all locally. It is like the garden of Eden here, natures equilibrium still prevails!
Beautiful. Thanks. I found it interesting to read about the pests. We have an organic garden that's surrounded by spraying in an area of massive biodiversity. The main pests for us are pesky mole crickets and ants farming aphids. But the biggest problem is rats - we can't grow food easily.
Hi healing herb, that sounds tricky to say the least! Step 1 ... do you have a cat!! Now the Mole Crickets - they sound AWFUL! Have you tried parasitic nematodes ... i think these could be excellent for you in this case - there are other types for most pests too - like BT for caterpillars.

As for the ant farming aphids you probably know the ants a aren't problem but merely an indicator that you have aphids - which you already new as well in this case! I am a big fan of soap for aphids - there are special gardeners soaps (like safers soap) but with care any washing up liquid at low doses can do the same.

Stunningly interesting reply and upvoted! Thank you for the tips. Mole crickets are extremely weird creatures and your stems just keel over.....it's disheartening but we like you know the value of insects in the garden as long as a balance is maintained.
