I don't know what's worse. Someone else limiting you or you limiting yourself. Either way you're being held back in one way or another. You've heard that the mind is a terrible thing to waste. Yepp. Well, your life with all its potential is much more of a terrible thing to waste. In fact it is your God given responsibility to move the mountains in your life and overcome limitations. We are constantly being bombarded with ideas and thoughts that are at war with who we are at the core and until we make the decision to not allow it then we are trapped. I think it's worse to limit yourself. If you believe in yourself and someone is limiting you you can usually move past that barrier. But if you are limiting yourself you really are going nowhere.
@humanearl You can do whatever it is you want to do. Just go for it! I don't listen to other people that try to tear me down. If I did I would have never accomplished anything in my life (past, present, future).
People often get jealous when we succeed because it shows that it's possible and makes them feel worse that they're not doing what it takes to get ahead. They take it as a personal slight, so they (sometimes) consciously or unconsciously drag us down. I've let myself get dragged down before, but it's not what's best. So we have to ignore those who would do harm to us by not allowing us to succeed, and we move forward.
Obviously to the extent that we can rob someone else of their rights, our rights are limited. If, for a ridiculous example, our pursuit of happiness includes the ability to kill others, society will step in and say, no, you may not do that.
