Inspirational Spiral......"What is Life really?".....
Doing my usual round on Steemit on a Monday morning, I leaped onto my feed. I was hoping that I would find something interesting to spend a few minutes on. I immediately had a change of heart and jumped on over to @thedarkhorse’s blog where I found his latest post of random thoughts.
As my followers may know, he hosts a weekly “pay it forward” contest that I have been featured in as well as been participating in. Lately, there have been discussions about making some changes to the contest. So after a fun-filled and busy weekend on the streets of Japan, I wanted to play "catch up" just in case I missed anything - talk about trying to stay dedicated.
Little did I know that such random thoughts, such innocent visit would have been an inspiration for a Monday like today. And in turn an inspiration for this post. After reading his post, my mind, my heart got to thinking "hearting" - "What is life really?"
Needing a bit of silence and fresh air, I decided to "kill two birds with one stone" and prepare my body for the upcoming lunch that sat on my desk whilst allowing my heart the time it needed to think "heart".
Exiting the restroom, I looked up, as I remembered the cocoon that I have been keeping my eyes on. I am not sure what created such a massive structure but it has been sitting there since about last summer when I first noticed the bee invasion that we had. The invasion was so great that the "fencing" for the corridor of the fifth-floor had to be barred off with huge meshes so as to keep out the insects.
The cocoon at first just sat there and became a bit of an eyesore for me - I don't like seeing cobwebs on the ceilings so this was like seeing a few dozen cobwebs. However, since winter passed, I noticed that straws were being used to fill it.
Soon, I started spotting one bird, then two birds....they graced the sky so beautifully as they circled the heavens of the school. It was no longer an eyesore but rather an object that was being prepared for a greater purpose. It was destined for the sustenance of life.
Today was a bit different though, as the cocoon had been somewhat destroyed and I can't say how it happened. Was it deliberately damaged by human action or did it cave under the weight added? I may never know and as simple as that may seem, I was a little heartbroken.
Walking away, I heard some chirping coming from another cocoon that hung just feet away from the first one. Low and behold, I could not only hear life but I could also see life; small beaks protruding through the opening in the cocoon singing the "food blues".
I took the liberty of awaiting the mother's arrival and indeed she didn't disappoint. She turned up with a full beak to ease the hunger of her precious babies. She scouted the area before she attempted to disclose where her little ones were nicely tucked away. And just like that, she played her part - she made a difference - she paid it forward.
The pictures with mother bird aren't so great because I had to zoom in from about a mile away using my smartphone. But nonetheless, I am happy to share them...
And here is mother-dearest making contact.
This had me all up in my feelings and really thinking about my own responsibility as a mother, a sibling, a teacher and a human being. Am I doing the best that I can?
As I watched the other birds who were busy gliding through the air, I heard myself "hearting".
These, my friend, are questions that we all have to ask ourselves. At some point in our life, we have to realize that life isn't just about being born, going to school, starting a family and then dying. There is so much more to life than what we choose to see.
Take a step outside in silence and you will envision that life is found hidden in the small acts that we do; the small acts of kindness; the small ways in which we give of ourselves. So my question to you today is...how are you making the most of life?
Glad my rambling thoughts could provide some inspiration to your post. Funny how we can set out in one direction and our minds or heart take us in another. Much like life I guess.
Very much like life indeed.... :-)
Well written and I like how you took me into your world ( well school) with the birds and just blessed me with a positive message about life. Well done. I enjoyed this :)
My restroom trips are most of the time quite interesting.... As I have a lovely view of the city so it always provides a moment to reflect or think. Happy the vibe has spiralled onto you.
