Very good post. Rarely do we face this kind of introspection.
I guess, I have felt unhappy about others' success, especially if I know those others welland have evidence of their mediocrity or some illegal path to get where they got.
Other than that, I think that, like the example you provided with cars, there are plenty of options available and we just need to decide which one we want for us.

You forget to focus on your own race and you start looking at what the person next to you is doing / achieving. This will drive you crazy and get you off track. You need to be competing with who you were yesterday.

This is a very good point. I usually admire those who get to a point that I had plan to get to, but did not dare to try.
It goes down to corrage, determination and resiliency. Talent counts, but sometimes it becomes the least important aspect. As a matter of fact, sometimes it can even become a handicap.
