When I think of a bee hive, I think of Winnie the Pooh climbing a tree and eating hunny from the hive. I remember googling “bee hive” and not finding an actual hive. Well now I know why! They live inside trees.
In tropical climates you will find bees building comb on the branches (open air colony). But these do not survive in climates with cold winters.
