The case for DDT

in #life7 years ago (edited)

The super pesticide, DDT, was a legitimate candidate for the greatest thing which Western man has ever invented. Pretty much all of what the average person ever reads or hears about DDT is a bunch of BS. It had no effect on birds, mammals, or anything else other than for insects and the effect it had on insects was pretty much 100%. The stuff was cheap to manufacture, long-lasting and vastly more effective against disease vectors and the creatures of Pandora's box than anything which has come along before or since. They had malaria all but wiped off the planet by 1957, bedbugs wiped out of the South 48, lice and typhus all but wiped off the earth and that was too good for them. Malthusians hated this because of the numbers of humans being allowed to live, and corporations hated it because the patents on it had long since run out and there was no way to make obscene profits with it, and then you had Rachel Carson ("Silent Spring") and the rise of the greentards...

Other than for Rachel Carson, no one human being has ever been responsible for 100 million human deaths within a space of 40 years. The one gigantically insane act of banning DDT has done this. Since the super pesticide was banned in the mid-70s, there have been upwards of 100 million human deaths due to malaria and for everyone person who dies from malaria, many others lose years from their lives or have their lives ruined by it. All of that was easily preventable.

Everybody who survived those death camps in World War II was sprayed with DDT to kill lice and prevent typhus. Several major typhoid epidemics were stopped cold as if they had run into an iron wall in the years immediately following World War II. None of those people ever suffered from DDT exposure. There were guys who fell into vats of the stuff in the 1950s who were walking around decades later with no ill effects. There was one guy who used to eat the stuff with a spoon on television to demonstrate the safety of it.

A friend of mine took a course in ornithology taught by Dr. Heintz Meng, America's greatest authority on birds of prey. My friend asked Dr. Meng point-blank in the classroom in front of 30 people what there was to know about DDT and he told me that the answer floored everybody in the room. He told the students that everything they had ever heard or read about DDT was a bunch of bullshit, that it had no effect on birds or birds eggs whatsoever and that the problem which hawks and Eagles had had from the 1800s until the late 1960s was being used for shotgun practice because of their habit of stealing chickens. In the late 60s and early 70s farmers began keeping chickens in cages, the problem with hawks and Eagles evaporated, and people stopped shooting them, nothing to do with DDT whatsoever.

The banning of DDT was a gigantic crime. Particularly the LaRouche group's take on the story is worth reading:

Excellent post, very well articulated. Your articles are always helpful - thank you so much. I'll have to retain this in my brains memory banks.:)

Good to hear I'm not just talking to myself, thanks! I still don't have much of a feel for steemit as of yet.

DDT is still being manufactured in India, China, and North Korea and can be bought on alibaba.com, all you need is a mailing address in a free country....
