I believe prayer should be for thankful for all that we have and for the life god given to us .
Prayer should not be connected with greed . As you said we have to learn it .
as the old saying goes "practice, makes perfect" since we are trying to make some form of conscious contact with a loving God, it will be never "perfect" but we should always be striving towards better, and more conscious contact.

But sir practice make perfect is the problem sir because people do wrong practice again and again which cause a perfection but in wrong direction.
